Prince of Peace

We arrived to transport Alfred. From his ER bed, he sent another text message. His wife gave him a hug and his nurse gave me report. He came in because he'd been having chest pain for 2 days, but according to the nurse, he hasn't had any since he arrived. His cardiac enzymes were slightly elevated so he was being transferred to a hospital with cardiology services.

His chief complaint now was a killer headache. I introduced my partner and asked a few questions.

"Hi Alfred....are you having any chest pain now?"

"No, just a real bad headache."

His wife interrupted. "Why don't you tell them about the chest pain?"

His wife ratted him out. He sent her a text about an hour ago sayng he was having chest pain. But he didn't tell the nurse. He was afraid. He wasn't sure what would happen if he told them he was having chest pain. In his mind, He was too young for a heart attack and too young to be facing the possibility of cardiac surgery.

I glanced at his face sheet and found the box for religious preference. He was a non-denominational Christian.

"This oughtta be good," I thought.

We got a set of vitals and got him loaded. After we were underway I took a seat next to him.

"Hey, Alfred, I have a question for you....would you like me to pray with you?"

He agreed. The smile on his face was priceless. My new friend has been under a lot of stress lately. Much more than he's used to. The chest pain only made things worse. Now he had his health to worry about. I asked how bad his headache was. He rated it at 8 out of 10.

I placed my hand gently on his shoulder and asked the Holy Spirit to bring His presence and touch him.

"Spirit of pain, I command you to leave. Holy Spirit, touch him with your power and remove all sickness and pain from him. I bless your work of healing and Lord, I thank you for your mercy."

I went on for a few minutes then asked what he felt.

"It's gone. It's all gone."

"Your headache?"

"Yeah."

"Are you lying to me?"

"No, I'm not lying. As soon as you put your hand on me and started praying, it left. It was like...two seconds later."

We both smiled and laughed and started talking about how amazing God is. Not only was his headache gone, but so was all of his anxiety and fear. All of it. Instantly.

He was the third person I prayed with this week who described an overwhelming sense of peace come over him when we prayed. The Prince of peace is making himself known.

We talked the rest of the way about healing, the kingdom, and the goodness of God. I taught him what I could about faith and healing and what to do if the symptoms returned. I gave him a card to the website and told him to leave a comment if he had time.

We dropped him off at the other hospital...a new man. When he left, he was a nervous wreck. When he arrived, he was smiling and laughing. His wife must have wondered what happened to him along the way.

Jesus happened to him.

All Things Aussie

Rochelle is a native of New Zealand, who in the US on a work visa. She was seen at the Mayo Clinic for the worst headache of her life. We were called to transport her to Mayo Hospital ER.

The "worst headache of your life" is a textbook clue that a patient may have a subarachnoid hemorrhage. A head CT will confirm or deny the existence of a ruptured blood vessel.

After taking report, we loaded Rochelle in the ambulance and got a baseline set of vitals, an EKG and checked her blood glucose. My attempt to establish an IV was a miserable failure. We rolled toward Mayo and I got to know her a little better.

I asked the usual questions and learned that she had partially torn both Achilles tendons. The injuries have prevented her from participating in some of her favorite activities.

Now it was time to ask if she wanted to be healed or I could chicken out and just transport her.

Rochelle travels a lot in her job, so we talked about the places she'd been since coming to the states. She'd seen more places than most people who've lived here their whole life. I told her that I'd just received an invitation to go to Brisbane, Australia to teach. She thought I would love it and encouraged me to go. Then I told her why I was asked to come there.

A few weeks ago I had a dream just before waking. (These are often the most important dreams. God gives them to us before waking to help us remember them) In the dream, I was being sent overseas as a representative to establish trade with a small group of people. When I woke, I checked my e-mail and found a message from a man who lives in Brisbane. He invited me to come there and teach him and a small group of friends about healing.

When Rochelle heard me mention healing, she asked what kind of healing I do. I explained then asked if she wanted me to give it a shot. With a hopeful smile she said, "I'd love it!"

We started with her Achilles tendons. I prayed over them a few times, but she felt nothing. I told her no worries and asked about her headache. The pain was 8/10, which was still the worst she'd ever had since she rarely has headaches.

I asked the Holy Spirit to bring His presence upon her and commanded the headache to leave then asked how she felt. The pain was less and she felt at peace, so I continued commanding the pain to leave and blood vessels to be healed. After a few minutes, her pain was much less and she was very relaxed.

She told me she was a spiritual person and asked what church I attend. This question has aways caused problems for me, but I'm getting more comfortable with it. I told her I work every Sunday, so the ambulance and Facebook are my church and God has used both in some amazing ways.

It was a long transport so we talked about the things I would experience if I were to visit Australia - including the lovely tropical east coast beaches and a local delicacy - the famous kangaroo burger.

"They're delicious and really good for you with almost no fat."

Part of me had trouble envisioning myself eating a cute little kangaroo, all bouncy and cuddly and sweet. I mean, they're kangaroos - not cows.

We arrived at Mayo and transferred Rochelle. I gave report to the nurse and a card to my new friend and told her to send me an e-mail to let us know how things turned out.

In the event that she did have a subarachniod hemorrhage, (and it wasn't healed) the diagram below explains one of the approaches to surgical repair.

Pay close attention and take notes. There will be a quiz next week.

The Checkout Woman

I was working on the ambulance and needed to buy potatoes & onions for dinner. I waited in line at the checkout and noticed the clerk rolling her head from side to side with a look of pain on her face. She asked how I was doing tonight. I asked about her obvious neck pain. She explained that she's had it for a while. I asked if she wanted to be healed.

She was curious and asked if I was a massage therapist. I told her I prayed with people and saw a lot of them healed; often miraculously. She said, "I'm sold!" But we had a problem. She had a line of customers waiting and I couldn't stay long. I gave her a card to the MIPU website, told her my e-mail address was on it and that I'd be back soon.

I left the store with mixed feelings; glad for the opportunity to plant a seed of hope, but disappointed that I didn't get to pray with her.

I came to work the next day & ended up at the same store again. As I approached the store, I met two men who were taking donations to help disabled veterans. I introduced myself and shared my admiration for what they were doing.

I noticed that one man was wearing dark sunglasses, even though they were in a shaded area. Few people wear sunglasses in dark places unless they have vision problems. Normal pupils dilate and constrict to allow the right amount of light to enter the eye. Problems with the pupil, like cataracts, make the pupil unable to correct for different lighting conditions. I asked what kind of problems he had.

With a puzzled look, he asked how I knew about his eye problems. I explained. He told me he had glaucoma and cataract surgery to his left eye, leaving him partially blind. I asked if he wanted to be healed. With a big smile, he said, "Sure". I asked if I could place my hand on his shoulder and he agreed. I invited the Holy Spirit to come and bring his presence and power to heal. I asked for peace to fill him and commanded darkness to flee. I commanded his eye to be healed and glaucoma to leave then I asked how he felt.

Smiling and laughing he said, "I fell like all my anxiety just left and I feel that peace you were talking about". He also said his vision was a little better.

I explained that the peace he felt was the work of the Holy Spirit and asked if I could pray a second time to improve his vision. He agreed, so I prayed a second time, addressing the vision then I asked how it was. He reported that it was even better now.

I went inside the store and found the woman with neck pain at her checkstand with a line of people waiting their turn. I saw another store employee and explained what I wanted to do then asked if she knew when the next break was. It was coming up in 15 minutes. I decided to wait for her.

She saw me waiting and smiled, holding up one finger to let me know she'd be able to talk in a minute or two. She closed her checkstand. Walking toward me she exclaimed, "You came back!" I asked how she was feeling.

"You came at the right time. I have a migraine headache and my neck and shoulders are killing me."

I wanted to give her hope that she could be healed so I shared the story about the store employee who was healed of migraines two years earlier from a word of knowledge. It worked, she was encouraged. We talked as we walked outside.

I asked about her symptoms then asked if I could place my hand on her shoulder and pray. She agreed. I asked the Holy Spirit to bring his presence and commanded the spirit of pain to leave.

Next, I commanded her headache and neck pain to leave and commanded the bones in her neck and back to come into alignment, then for all muscles, bones, ligaments, tendons and nerves to be healed. I asked how she felt. "I feel great. My headache is completely gone."

I asked if she was lying and told her she didn't need to worry about hurting my feelings. Smiling, she said "I'm a big girl, and I'm being honest. My headache really is gone." But she still had a little pain between her shoulder blades so I placed my hand there and commanded the pain to leave then asked again how she felt.

Moving her shoulders up and down to see if she could make the pain come back she said all the pain was gone.

I said, "Isn't God just amazing?"

With a knowing smile she said, "yes he is."

As we stood in front of the store, a bitter wind chilled our faces. We talked about the goodness of God, which she'd experienced many times. She knew the Lord well. Today's encounter was a further revelation of His deep love and mercy toward her.

"Well...I suppose I need to go back to my checkstand"

My partner slept in the front of the rig, oblivious to what had just happened. In the distance I heard the wail of a fire engine.

"I guess I need to get back to work, too."

Hope and Healing in Peds Oncology

This story was submitted by Michael C. King

It was at the end of a 12-hour shift in early December and I had already reported off to the next CNA. I went into a patient’s room to empty the urine in their bathroom, the last task I would perform that night. I was working on a pediatric oncology floor, this patient was a four year old girl, and her mother and aunt were present.

As was coming out of the bathroom, the mother was on her way out the door and asked the aunt “if she needed the Tylenol,” and expressed that she
had already taken some.

I’m always looking for excuses to pray for people, so I asked them if they were alright. "Oh, it’s just sleeping in the hospital. You know, chairs and that daybed. They give us such pain in our necks and we’ve had headaches all day.”

“Do you mind if I pray for you?” They didn’t mind. I prayed for the mother first, placing my hand on her shoulder, and when I commanded the pain to go, I snapped my fingers. The moment I did that, heat shot into her neck, and the pain lessened. Since God was doing something, I just let God do what he was doing, and prayed for the aunt.

At Holy Spirit’s leading, I commanded a spirit off of her, and the pain lessened slightly. Both women felt a lessening of pain, but it was not all gone. The mother was getting all freaked at this point, and we started talking.

I explained that sometimes people get healed instantly, and sometimes it takes a couple rounds of prayer. They had a couple other questions, which I answered as best as I could, regarding God and healing and such. It turns out they were believers, but had never encountered God as Healer. I told them that Jesus didn’t die so we could get healed halfway, and prayed for them until the pain left entirely (which only took a minute or two).

The mother then asked me, sort of hesitantly, “Do you think it would work for her?” pointing to her daughter lying in the hospital bed.

“Certainly!” I replied. The daughter was upset, verbally told us that she didn’t want prayer, and was adamant about it. Had it been another time and place, I would have started praying for her by commanding spirits to be quiet and to come out of her (as that was, in my opinion, the reason she was so resistant) but it was neither an appropriate time nor place, so I skipped it, although I REALLY wanted to.

I had the mother and aunt lay their hands on her, and had them repeat after me a really simple prayer. I said something like “Jesus died so that we could be healed, so I command healing into this body and cancer to go in Jesus’ name.” We waited for a few moments afterwards, and I then said “That’s how you do that” and encouraged them to continue to pray for her in such a fashion until she was better.
Normally I would have the daughter test out the injury, but since it required a blood test to determine if the cancer was gone, that would have to happen at another time. I hugged them and then left.

While we had been talking, there was one other thing that God was doing, which I had never experienced before. The mother said to me at two different points during that ten minutes we were talking and praying that she felt something happening inside her while she was listening to me talk. I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I figured it out later. While I was talking, God was depositing HOPE into the mother to believe that God could heal her daughter. He might even have been depositing faith, but I KNOW she was receiving an impartation of hope. I believe this was what prompted her to ask if healing prayer would work for her daughter.
When I left, I was thrilled that the women got healed, but what touched me most deeply was the virtue God deposited in her. What had only ten minutes before been a very dark and painful situation became just a little less painful and a ray of hope had just cracked through the clouds. And the whole time, I was still getting paid to do it. ^_^

New Hope For Mary

The nurse motioned for me to leave the patient's room. I followed him into the hallway. He wanted to give report away from Mary and her family.

She was admitted to the ER a few hours ago for a severe headache. She was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Her head CT showed a new frontal lobe mass which would likely be another tumor. She was being transferred to a larger hospital that had the capability of neurosurgery.

Along with a severe headache she had severe abdominal pain. They'd medicated her with Dilaudid so when we returned to the room, she was slow to answer questions. I did the introductions and explained the transfer process.

Having just transported a Muslim man with a GI bleed who was healed, (Go here for that story) I felt this was another opportunity to demonstrate God's power and love.

I told Mary that my plan was to have her feeling better during the 2.5 mile transfer.

She smiled."So what do you have... some kind of crystals or magic spell for me?"

I smiled. "No, I don't do the crystal or magic spell thing. Let's just say pain and sickness don't like me very much."

After we had her loaded, I told a few stories about people who'd been healed, including the Muslim man we'd just transported. She was interested in hearing more, but it was a short trip so I asked if she wanted to be healed. She said the headache was killing her and asked if I could make it go away.

I placed my hand on her forehead and commanded the pain to leave then asked how she felt.

"Better."

I did it again and asked how she felt.

"It's a lot better"

I did it a third time and asked how she felt.

"It's gone."

I asked if she was serious, or just saying that. She said, "No, I'm serious, it's completely gone."

I explained that God just healed her headache as a demonstration of his power and love for her. She asked if I could make her abdominal pain leave.

I repeated the process over her abdomen until all her pain was gone. I asked if I could pray that her cancer would also leave. She gladly said yes. I had her place her hand where the breast cancer was and I placed my hand on top of hers. I put my other hand on her forehead and commanded cancer to leave. When I was done I told her to close her eyes and rest until we got to our destination.

I noticed that her daughter, who was riding along, had streams of tears running down her cheeks. I love how the power of God moves the hearts of people.

We arrived and whisked her to the ICU, where we transferred her and I gave report. This time I told the nurse that her headache and abdominal pain were mysteriously gone.

Before leaving, I bent down and put my forehead on Mary's.

Then whispered in her ear, "God loves you."

Two days later I went the hospital to check up on Mary. I found her daughter and mother coming off the elevator. The surgery to remove the brain tumor, was a shorter procedure than expected and it went well. She was having an MRI when I stopped by so I didn't get to see her. Her family was grateful to have a stranger pray for her.

Healing A Muslim

I looked at the registration sheet in the transfer packet. His religious preference indicated ISL; a follower of Islam.

My heart sank.

I thought, "there's no way he'll let me pray for him."

They were still copying records, so it would be a while before we could transport him to another hospital for dialysis and possible surgery. I went to his room to introduce myself.

Crammed into a room slightly larger than a closet I found Maurice, a man in his thirties with some big problems. After passing large amounts of blood in his bowel movements for three days, he reluctantly came to the emergency room. He'd managed to flush most of his blood volume down the toilet.

A normal red blood cell count (RBC) is between 4.5 and 5.5. His was 1.6. His hemoglobin and hematocrit were critical. The ER doc ordered a transfusion of 6 units of whole blood for starters.

Maurice was diagnosed with high blood pressure at 15. At the age of 18 he suffered his first stroke and spent 2 weeks in a coma. At 21, he developed kidney failure and learned about dialysis. My new friend had more medical problems than most men twice his age.

I explained my part in the continuing drama of his life. We chatted as I thought about how we would get him out of the tiny room and keep the lifeline attached to his neck from pulling out. An external jugular vein was the only IV access they could find.

Maurice was curious. The moment we got in the ambulance the questions began.

"Are the lights on?"

I said, "yes, but only on the left side, because people don't appreciate bright lights in their eyes."

"Not the inside ones, I mean the ones on the outside. Are the red lights on?"

I smiled and asked if he thought we needed them. He said, "I don't know, what do you think?"

I explained that we don't use red lights much between hospitals because most of the patients are stable. We talked about the benefit and risk of running red lights and siren. But I shared the story with him about the woman we transported earlier in the day who was in premature labor. "We don't like delivering babies in the ambulance."

"What's the difference between an EMT and a paramedic?"

I explained.

"What's the difference between a paramedic and a nurse?"

More explanations.

I really liked Maurice. He was a pleasant man in spite of his medical problems and he laughed at much of what I said. He didn't fit the stereotype of Muslims that I'd built in my mind. He was strangely....very much like me.

In explaining the differences between paramedics, EMT's and nurses, I told him that I was a little different from most medics because I saw patients healed in my ambulance.

With a puzzled look he delivered his next question, "what do you mean healed?"

I told him a few stories about patients who had been healed. Now he was even more curious.

"Can you do anything about my headache?"

I asked how bad it was. He said it was very painful, about 8/10. I told him I'd command it to leave. I placed my hand on his head and commanded the pain to leave in the name of Jesus. Then I asked how he felt.

"A little better"

I put my hand on his head again and commanded the pain to leave then asked how he felt.

"A lot better."

I did it one more time and he said, "It's gone...completely gone." He was smiling from ear to ear.

I said, "Jesus just healed you."

He said, "I only have one problem with Jesus. He was a good man and all, but he wasn't God. The bible even says no man has seen God at any time. But Jesus was seen by the multitudes."

I opted out of the argument and went for more healing. I told him God healed his headache because He loved him. The healing was proof of it. I told him that God could give him new kidneys, and heal his GI bleed and blood pressure. He let me continue praying.

I placed my hands on his abdomen and commanded the bleeding to stop and for his kidneys to be healed.

In the middle of praying it occurred to me to share the story about the visitation Bonnie Jones had where she was in a warehouse in heaven filled with spare body parts. She was told that the organs could be put in people on earth who needed new ones. When I was done declaring healing over him, he told me about what happened when he was in a coma for two weeks after the stroke.

"I want to tell you about this experience. When I was comatose for two weeks, I had a very strange thing happen to me. I was in some kind of warehouse and someone was with me. I didn't see them. I don't know who it was, but I felt comforted when I was with them. The one who was with me kept saying I would be OK. They said everything would work out. They told me my journey was not done. I had an assignment that must be completed."

We talked about the experience. I suggested that it was a near death experience like many that I'd read about and that the one who was with him was the Spirit of God. He didn't argue. Nothing in his knowledge of Islam could explain the experience. I told him a little bit about the Holy Spirit in the short time we had.

We arrived at our destination and moved him to his ICU bed. I gave report to the nurse and left out the fact that his headache was healed.

I learned so much on this transport. My view of Muslims was destroyed. I'm working on a new one. I realized they might be the perfect people to demonstrate healing with. They believe in God and they like prayer. They just have different interpretations of them.

What Maurice needed was someone to love as Jesus loves and heal as Jesus heals. We tend to believe that people of others beliefs have never had true spiritual experiences or encounters with God. My new friend had a profound heavenly experience most of us will never have, this side of heaven. What he needed was someone he trusted to give him an interpretation of it.

Two days after transporting Maurice, I went to the ICU to check up on him. He gave me permission to tell his story, but we agreed to change his name. We talked for quite a while and laughed a lot. He allowed me to pray for healing of his kidneys again. When I asked what the doctors found on examining him for bleeding, he told me that they ordered all the usual tests - both endoscopy and abdominal scans and found no signs of bleeding. The only reasonable conclusion is that Jesus healed him.

Instant Healing - Part of Our Job

Sometimes I feel disconnected from God when I spend time at home. He's become a steady and constant companion with me on the ambulance. I know He's always with me, it just seems like He's more with me when I see His power and love at work. I've seen more of that lately and I love it. I want to share with you some of the entries from my journal to give you an idea of how God makes his presence known to me at work.

I'm beginning a 36 hour shift. Due to some poor planning on my part I ended up working more than I wanted to this weekend. As we drove to a call my partner told me he was getting a very bad headache. He got out the bottle of Advil and took a couple. As I drove, I asked if I could pray for him to be healed. He said, sure. I put my right hand on his shoulder, and kept the other one on the steering wheel. I commanded the pain to leave. Before he had the bottle of Advil put away his headache was completely gone. We were both stunned. It was the first time I'd seen a healing that fast when praying for someone by myself.

I prayed for a man in his 70's with congestive heart failure and numerous other problems related to it. He was a very nice man with a great sense of humor. We talked and joked a lot during the transport. I saw his frustration over the medical conditions he'd been having and asked if he wanted them gone. He said, yes. I asked if I could pray for all of his health problems to be healed. He was very happy to have me pray. It was a busy day and a long, sleepless night. I didn't get to pray for anyone else. I sensed most of the people I saw were not interested. I got 1 hour of sleep between 4 and 5am.

On day 2, I got to pray for an elderly woman who fell out of bed and suffered a broken bone in her neck (C-2), a broken clavicle and a subdural hematoma. It was a short transport - I don't know if she was healed. She was a sweet woman. The patient, her daughter and I all prayed together in the ambulance.

I love it when church breaks out at work!

We transported a young woman, in her 20's with a cerebral venous thrombosis. I gave her some encouraging words after I prayed with her. Although she was frightened, she felt a lot better after we prayed and she thanked me. We transported another woman in her 40's who had a stroke with right-sided paralysis. She had no prior health problems until this event. She was scared and frustrated. I opened up a friendly dialog and asked her if I could pray for her. I sensed she didn't know much about God, but she was eager to try anything now. Again, she was noticeably happier after we prayed and thanked me. I didn't see any evidence that either of these women were immediately healed, though in time they might be.

I also prayed for an employee of a local hospital. She’s a paramedic working as an ER tech. We arrived early for a transport so my partner and I went to the break room and watched the football game. The ER tech and I talked about our past experiences in EMS. This being our first conversation, I tried to build a bridge of trust with her. I sensed God was up to something but I didn't know what it was. A friend of mine taught me that ministry (the ability to use our gifts) flows through relationships. When it was time to get the patient, we walked to the ER when she suddenly developed severe left knee pain. I asked if she'd ever had it before. She said no. She sometimes has pain in the other knee but never had pain in this one. I asked permission to pray for her and when she said yes, I placed my hand on her knee and prayed quickly. I basically commanded the pain to leave. She said she didn't feel anything. I told her it might take a little while. A few minutes later she said the pain was completely gone.

The following day We transported a man who has esophageal cancer. It partially occluded his airway and he came in to the ER by ambulance. Before we got to him my partner was approached in the parking lot by a man whose wife lost their baby last night – it was still born. He was looking for answers and my partner was at a loss for words, so he asked me to help out. I listened to the man tell me about the delivery and his emotions afterward. When he was done I told him about the death of David’s son and the fact that David knew he would go to be with him one day. This made the guy so happy he began to cry with joy and he hugged me tightly and thanked me. He said he hasn’t ever prayed much but last night he did a lot of praying and seeking God. I think he’s going to see God's purposes more in days to come.

I talked with the patient who had cancer during the transport. He was close to God years ago, but drifted away more in recent years. I listened to him and then let him rest for most of the 45 minute trip. I prayed for his healing while he rested. I don't know if he was healed. After dropping him off and giving report I prayed for his sister who has arthritis and sciatic nerve pain in her right leg.

Day 4 - I had some appointments today while I was on duty. I went to the first meeting to pray for a woman I've known for years. I had a legitimate reason to talk to her, but the main reason in my mind was to get a chance to pray for her to be healed. I had vision 3 months ago about her. In the vision, God told me she had tendonitis. I asked her about it a few weeks ago. She told me she has arthritis in both her knees and tendinitis in one of them - which required surgery last spring. She's been in a lot of pain this summer. On the way to meet her, I met another person who works in the office. She was limping because of a bone spur on her heel. I prayed for her to be healed. I finally got a chance to pray for the woman with arthritis and tendonitis. I was a little surprised because she was very open to it. I don't know why, but I still expect people to be reluctant - even after God shows me what He wants to do. I've never found much resistance when I follow His lead.

With the exception of the last case, in which I had a vision, I didn't receive any information in advance for anyone I prayed for this weekend. I've leaned heavily on words of knowledge in the past. It's almost become a crutch. It was cool watching God heal people as I simply went forward in faith where people obviously needed healing.

I've gotten out of my comfort zone at home lately. I once went on 'treasure hunts' each time I went out to a place of business. I prayed for people all the time at the grocery store. I don't do it as much as I once did. That needs to change. It's the only way I'm going to see God moving both at work and at home. There are people all around me everywhere I go who need and want to be healed. After the things I saw this weekend, I'm very encouraged and excited to pray for people. It's been a long time coming.

My wife and I are going to the 'Spiritual Hunger Conference' this week for our anniversary. We're entering a time of unprecedented global changes. It's a critical time to be hearing what God is saying. I can't think of a better place to be. We are both looking for some healing, too. We both suffer from chronic neck pain and other nagging problems. Don't ask me to explain how that works. We watch others healed, and still have problems of our own that aren't healed. Maybe I'll write about it in a future post. I'm looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us at the conference. I'll keep you posted.
