Margaret's Miracle

Originally posted here on John Mellor's Facebook page.

Today, Julie and I caught up with Margaret Neely in Belfast. Margaret is a walking miracle.

For 9 years she was a housebound cripple in a wheelchair. Her spine had been shattered and she was told she'd never walk again. She heard about the miracles happening at my meetings in Scotland in 2000 when revival broke out. Something in her told her that she had to get to the meetings from her home in Northern Ireland.

It took Margaret from 4am in the morning to 7pm at night to travel on a ferry and in several disabled taxis to get to the meetings in Scotland. She had to confront many fears to get to the meetings, having not left her home in so long. I prayed for her many times on the first night she came, but nothing happened. I encouraged her not to give up and told her if she kept coming I'd keep praying for her.

The next weekend, she made the long trip from Belfast to Scotland again. Again, there was no change after prayer. However, Margaret witnessed many outstanding miracles at the meetings and I continued to encourage her to keep believing for and pursuing her miracle.

She came a third weekend, but again wasn't healed.

On the fourth weekend, when she arrived, God spoke to me and told me that Margaret would walk that night. Mid way through preaching, God prompted me to stop and pray for Margaret. I held her hands and said, 'In the name of Jesus, get up and walk.'

Margaret later testified that she felt heat down her spine and she got up out of her wheelchair and walked. It was an amazing miracle! Margaret's testimony is inspirational because it demonstrates that not all healing is instant. Very often there's a process involved. God often wants to touch and heal the heart and emotions first, and this was certainly the case with Margaret who had many traumas and abuses throughout her life that needed to be healed.

It may seem that God isn't doing anything at times, but He is often at work on things you can't see. It also often takes a level of desperation and an attitude to be open to working with God and applying His principles to get the miracle. 12 years after her miracle, Margaret is still walking and serves God by ministering to others.

God bless you Margaret!

ICU Being Healed

I'd be lying if I said I didn't love my job. I know you're busy, so let me just share a quick testimony. The woman below is smiling because she no longer has a torn rotator cuff. I bet you'll never guess how it happened.

Last week we transported a ventilator dependent patient who has Lou Gehrig's disease. Just like my friend Scott Buzzell, (I haven't forgot about you, Scott) our patient was diagnosed years ago and is now paralyzed except for his facial muscles. The woman holding the balloon was the respiratory therapist on duty when we picked him up in the ICU.

As we got our patient ready, I noticed her rubbing her right shoulder as if it hurt. I asked what was wrong. She told me she tore her rotator cuff last year when a nurse jerked the code cart away from her. I asked if she wanted to be healed. She did, so I placed my hand on her shoulder and commanded it to be healed.

At the nurses station in front of everyone. Then I asked if she felt anything.

"It just feels a little warm."

"Cool - that's the power of God healing you."

I prayed a second time and asked her to try to raise her arm up. With a torn rotator cuff, it's extremely painful to raise your arm above the height of your shoulder. She tried, but it hurt. I told her it might take a few minutes for the healing to completely manifest.

We continued getting the patient ready. A few minutes later she returned. Raising her arm a little higher than before, she said, "Look...what I can do". She was overjoyed. "I haven't been able to do this in over a year."

The patient had his own ventilator, which we were taking with us in addition to our own gear. We needed help getting it all down to the ambulance. The RT volunteered to escort us. On the way to the ambulance she told the patient's wife that I healed her shoulder. I asked if she was sure that she was healed. She said she was. We loaded the patient and equipment and I pulled out my phone to get a picture. She gave me permission to post it. I gave her a card and a hug then we left.

I'm waiting for a report from the Respiratory Therapist. So if you read this, please leave a comment or send me an e-mail and let me know how you're doing.

Praying Medic out -

Almost forgot.....I prayed with the patient on the way to his house. No report on him yet.

Miracle at the Wound Care Clinic

One of the more common problems with being bed confined is the prevalence of decubitus ulcers – more commonly known as “bed sores”. Just a short time spent in the same position puts pressure on tissues of the body. The pressure reduces blood flow. Reduced blood flow impedes the exchange of oxygen, nutrients and removal of waste products.

All these conditions will, if not reversed, result in the death of body tissue. The death of tissue leads to open sores in the skin, which become infected and painful. People who can’t change body positions on their own are susceptible to these skin ulcers Many of the patients we see have them.

Today we transported one such patient to clinic for wound care. The office was busy. Workers hurried from room to room, moving patients around, but one woman named Kate, wasn’t moving so fast. An immobilizer on her leg made her a little slower than the rest.

Our patient wouldn’t be seen immediately, so we parked the gurney in the hall and as Kate passed by, I asked why she wore the immobilizer.

She seemed glad to have a reason to take a break and filled me in on the details. Several weeks earlier, Kate stepped off a curb and tore the supporting structures in her ankle including her Achilles tendon which detached from the heel. I asked if she had surgery. Her doctor wanted her to try the immobilizer for a few weeks before they considered surgery.

I asked if she wanted to be healed. She asked what I had in mind. I told her about a few people that had been healed and she said she’d like to give it a try. I told her that I catch up with her while our patient was being seen by the doctor.

When the time arrived, we rolled our patient into an exam room, gave them a quick report and left them to do their thing. That gave me 20 minutes to get Kate’s foot healed.

I went to the receptionist desk, where Kate worked and told her I was ready. We walked to the staff break room to avoid drawing attention. Sometimes a crowd is appropriate for the miraculous, but in the work place, I try to respect people’s wishes for privacy.

We sat down and I explained what I do. I asked about her pain and range of motion then shared a few testimonies, including the people who’d recently been healed of a torn Achilles tendon.

I placed my hand on the immobilizer near her ankle and told her she’d probably feel either heat or tingling. I commanded spirits to heave, asked the Holy Spirit to bring His presence to touch her and commanded pain and inflammation to leave. I spoke to the ligaments, tendons, bones, nerves and blood vessels to be healed. I asked what she felt.

“You know it’s funny you mentioned tingling, because as soon as you started speaking I felt tingling on the side of my foot by your hand.”

I commanded the Achilles tendon to reattach to the heel and asked what she felt.

“Now the tingling is up in my calf, which is where the tendon is torn.”

I asked if she had any pain. She replied that it was all gone. I told her I was confident that she was completely healed and she could probably take the immobilizer off and walk without pain. She was reluctant to take it off, but she seemed to agree that she didn’t need it any more.

I told her the pain might come back and explained that God really did heal her, but the enemy might try to convince her she wasn’t healed.

“Healing is a battle. Sometimes you need to push back against the enemy. You saw what I did to get you healed, so if the pain comes back, command it to leave in the name of Jesus, like I did. Then continue to believe you’re healed.”

Kate let me take a picture of her leg and I gave her info on how to find me here. I encouraged her to keep in touch and let me know how she felt in a few days.

I was thinking today how easy it is to find people to pray with. I haven’t received a word of knowledge in months. But there are people all around us who need a healing touch or an encouraging word from God.

Anyone can do this stuff, you know. It’s not just for a few people.

It’s for everyone.

Even you.

Ortho Appointment

Vanessa sat on the gurney as the doctor examined her. He asked questions as he tested her ability to flex and extend her feet. Her tracheostomy made it hard to hear the answers. Her words came out in a muffled whisper.

It was easier to read her lips.

She'd been brought to an orthopaedic appointment by another crew that had been held past the end of their shift and they needed to go home. We were taking over patient care. Vanessa was being seen several months after a car accident that left her severely disabled and in a lot of pain.

The medic gave a quick report and apologized (repeatedly) for “dumping” their patient on us. There’s a lot of mistrust in EMS. Some crews do as little work as possible so when a patient is handed off to another crew, there’s always the thought that  laziness might be involvedThe weary medic assured me she wouldn't be a problem.

The doctor finished his exam. Before leaving, he assured Vanessa he’d be praying for her. I love it when doctors pray.

(Now if we can only teach them how to heal their patients through prayer)

I introduced myself and Vanessa whispered her story.

I already knew a few details, having listened in during the exam. She’d been in a car accident that left her with a lot of broken bones in her arms and legs. She also had airway problems what required a tracheostomy and ventilator.

Vanessa rubbed her left wrist.

I asked if it hurt. She said it did and rated the pain at 6/10. Both wrists hurt, but the left was worse than the right. I asked if I could pray with her.

She whispered, “Sure. I pray every day.”

I asked if she wanted God to heal her. She said she did. I told her that when I was done, her wrists wouldn’t hurt any more, because God loves to heal people and she would be healed.

So let me explain why I’m now telling people in advance that they will be healed.

I've noticed that when I have confidence (faith) in God’s desire to heal someone and when I allow that confidence to be expressed in words, it comes out as a confident declaration that they will be healed, before I lay hands on them.

My faith in God is manifest as a declaration that they will be healed. Not “maybe you’ll be healed” or “I think you can be healed”, but a confident prediction – “God will heal you.”

I’ve noticed that when I believe in my heart that God will heal someone and I speak with boldness that they’ll be healed before I begin to pray, God nearly always heals them immediately. It’s extremely rare that they are not healed.

I’ve also noticed that when I don’t have as much confidence in what God will do and I fail to speak confidently about what will happen – the results are not as good.

Now before we create a formula for healing, let's be clear about one thing - it's not my words of confidence that cause a person to be healed. It's my faith in God. If I were to make the same prediction while doubting that God would actually heal them - the results would be the same as if I'd said nothing.

Here’s one more thing that I've noticed, and this is perhaps the most important revelation about healing that I've found in the last 6 months. (Take note of it, because it may be one of the keys to operating consistently in healing)

I believe the Holy Spirit suggested a principle to me. I wasn't absolutely certain that it was Him, so I took the principle and began testing it to see if it was just a flaky idea or a real principle of the kingdom. It seems to be holding up under testing.  Here it is:

Once I’ve reached a certain level of faith about what God will do in any area – He expects me to operate at the same (or higher) level of faith in that area from that point in time forward.

This principle (if it is true) is full of consequences.

Once my heart and mind have been enlightened to the truth about God’s will for a specific thing, I don’t have the luxury of walking in doubt or unbelief any longer. He does His part, when I do my part. And my part is to believe that He’ll do what He’s done in the past.

That means that when I discuss possible outcomes with a person who needs healing, I must speak as though I know what will happen before it actually happens; calling things that are not, as though they are.

So there I was in the doctor’s office, telling Vanessa that her wrists would be healed. I couldn't help but notice the surgical scars on her wrists where pins, plates and screws had been inserted to hold the broken bones in place.

“Alright Jesus, you like healing people, so let’s get her healed. Holy Spirit, bring your presence and touch her. I command pain and inflammation to leave, evil spirits to leave. Muscles, ligaments, bone, tendons, nerves and cartilage, I command you to be healed now in the name of Jesus.”

I asked what she felt. She moved her hands in circles, smiled and said. “Nothing.”

“What do you mean by ‘nothing’?”

“No pain. They feel great”, she whispered as she continued rotating her wrists to make sure she wasn’t imagining it.

“Is there any pain at all?”

“Maybe just a little in the left one”.

By now my partner was getting involved. Having been healed of neck pain two weeks ago and seeing a few patients healed since then, he told Vanessa she would be healed too.

I prayed over her left wrist a second time and the pain vanished. “Now let’s get your feet healed.”

I asked how much pain she had in her feet and checked her range of motion. The atrophy in her right leg was the greatest concern. Her left calf was twice the size of her right one. She had a limited ability to move her right foot. Her ankles hurt constantly.

I told her, “You won’t have any pain when I’m done.”

I had to believe that if God healed her wrists, He would heal her feet. I commanded her feet to be healed in the same way that I did her wrists and in a minute or two, all the pain was gone.

That’s when the doctor returned.

I told him what we’d been up to. He seemed pleased by her testimony and remarked that God’s ways are wonderful and mysterious.

On the way back to the nursing home, I prayed for her throat to be healed so they could remove her tracheostomy tube. She said that as I prayed, she felt heat coming out of my hand which was resting on her arm.

God just amazes me.

Vanessa asked for my contact information, which I gave to her as I taught her how to keep her healing. I’m looking forward to hearing from her. She lives at a nursing home we visit often. I’ll try to get a follow up report and post it here.

A few months ago, I had a dream about meeting a doctor who wanted to be healed of arthritis. He lived in Scottsdale. The office I was in today is in Scottsdale. I first visited this office shortly after having that dream. At that time, I felt that these doctors (there are several of them) might be open to learning how to heal their patients through the power of God. I plan to visit them on my day off and ask if they’re interested in learning about divine healing.

Please pray for open doors and open minds.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

On Target

My daughter and I have a Saturday ritual. We check what’s left in the pantry and refrigerator and make a pilgrimage to Costco to re-stock. We always stop at a second store to get a few things we can’t get a Costco. This Saturday we stopped at Target.

We picked up a few things and were cruising the aisles, when my daughter said, “Hey dad, did you see the lady with the leg immobilizer?”

I was busy looking for things on my list had hadn't noticed her.

We found her in the refrigerated food aisle. I could tell that my daughter wanted to see her healed, so I walked up and asked what she did to injure her foot. She explained that she had a torn (detached) left Achilles tendon. I asked how it happened. She said it was a rare side-effect of taking the antibiotic Levaquin.

I’d never heard of an antibiototic causing something like a torn tendon.

I asked if she’d had surgery to repair it yet.

"Not yet. I’m scheduled for surgery in two weeks."

I would have already introduced myself, but Lori was so friendly and willing to discuss her life with a couple of strangers, I decided to wait and let her tell us as much as she would without telling her who we were and what we had planned.

If you know me, you know I like to build bridges of trust before asking if I can pray with someone. This bridge was going up quickly. But it was time for introductions, so I told her I was a medic and introduced my daughter.

I thought it would be good to share one testimony before we asked if she wanted to be healed, so I told her the story about the EMT who had his torn Achilles tendon healed while at work. Then I asked if she wanted to be healed. She said she’d like that very much.

My daughter and I placed our hands on her immobilized ankle. I asked the Holy Spirit to bring His presence and touch her. I don’t know if she felt His presence, but I did. We commanded pain, inflammation and spirits of infirmity to leave and asked if she felt anything.

“It feels hot down there.”

“Awesome. That’s the power of God healing you.”

We prayed a second time. I commanded the tendon to re-attach to the heel bone and asked what she felt.

“I feel a pulling sensation near my heel.”

I explained that the “pulling sensation” was probably her tendon re-attaching to her heel bone and said she may want to remove the immobilizer and try to walk without it when she got home.

We spent a few minutes talking. She thanked us repeatedly for stopping to pray with her. I gave told her info on how to find this site and asked her to drop us an e-mail and let us know how she was doing.

My Daughter gave me a high five as we walked away.....

and a fistbump.

Jesus is so cool :)

The Nurse Feels His Presence

It's been a busy couple of weeks on the ambulance. So busy that we've been held past the end of our shift an hour or two almost every day.

Our first encounter came on a transport of a patient going from a nursing home to a hospital for an abdominal CT scan. This was the second day in a row we transported him for the same procedure. The previous day, we brought him to radiology only to learn that his insurance company had not yet authorized the test. So we took him back after waiting for an hour. Today, the insurance approval went through.

While waiting in line for an open scanner room, a nurse came by and asked if we'd been helped. I told her we had and noticed an immobilizer on her wrist. I asked if she wanted to be healed.

With a puzzled look on her face, she asked what I meant. I told her I pray with people and God heals them. She seemed to understand but I could tell she was nervous having a paramedic ask if she wanted to be healed in a busy hospital corridor. I took her aside to an alcove out of the main flow of traffic and said, "If you want to be healed, it will only take a minute." She agreed to let me pray with her.

I asked the Holy Spirit to bring His presence and immediately I felt lightness and joy come over me and I began to sway gently back and forth. (I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this part of the job)

I commanded ligaments, tendons, bones, nerves and muscles to be healed then asked, "What do you feel?"

"Tingling....and it feels better."

I repeated the process and asked how she felt.

She smiled...."The pain is completely gone!"

I asked if she was serious. She was. Her wrist was completely healed. I told her that's how God is - He heals us because He loves us. She had to go back to work.

The next transport was to a nursing home. After dropping off our patient, I gave report. My partner took the gurney outside to clean it. After giving report, I stepped into a hallway and realized I was lost. I walked to the end of the hallway and checked in both directions looking for something familiar.

Just another hallway that I didn't recognize and no obvious clues pointing to the way out.

I decided to go to the nurses station at the other end of the hallway. But I didn't want look like an idiot.

How do you ask for directions to the front door and not look foolish?

I found a nurse who didn't seem too busy and asked if she'd point me in the direction of the front door. She politely gave me the route. And I asked how she injured her wrist.

She looked at the immobilizer and said, "I don't know. I've had a CAT scan, and MRI and all kinds of tests and they can't determine what's wrong with it. It's swollen and hurts like crazy.

"Would you like to be healed?"

"I'd love that", she said with a grin. "I was at a healing meeting last night. I do Reiki healing."

I wondered to myself ..."if you were at a healing meeting last night, why weren't you healed?"

I thought about asking, but I kept it to myself.

"Do you want to be healed?"

"Yes."

"Are you certain?"

"Absolutely."

I asked the Holy spirit to bring His presence and a few seconds later I was swaying back and forth and commanding her to be healed in the mighty name of Jesus. We were both enjoying the glory when another nurse came by and looked at us strangely.

"We're just having a special moment", she said.

I laughed inside and thought, "it's just as special for me as it is for you".

I asked how she felt.

She looked at her wrist and moved it around. "It feels good."

I said, "Take off the brace, I guarantee you it's healed."

Releasing the Velcro straps she pulled off the brace and tested her range of motion. "Wow....that's amazing. It doesn't hurt at all. There's still a bit of swelling , but it doesn't hurt at all."

"That's how God is. He doesn't do anything half way. The swelling will go down. Just wait a little while and you'll see. Do yourself a favor - get rid of the brace and don't put it back on. You're healed, for good. If the pain comes back, just tell it to leave in the name of Jesus."

It's been a busy few weeks on the Mobile Intensive Prayer Unit. God's been healing and setting people free and I just love working alongside of Him.

Thanks for coming along on the ride.

Circle K Healing

I picked up my daughter from school today. She's not as young as she once was. She's enrolled in school to be a dental assistant. I let her drive. On the way home, we decided to stop for coffee. One problem with road coffee is consistency. One store's java can have decent flavor and the one down the street under the same name might taste like sewer water.

When it comes to coffee, my daughter and I prefer Circle K . We like their creamer and the quality of their coffee is the best of the convenience stores in the Phoenix area. I realize this subject isn't important to most people. Thanks for putting up with my rant.

As we approached the counter, I noticed that one of the women behind the counter had her left arm in a sling. I asked if she wanted to be healed. She said, "Sure!" We waited until the line of customers had dwindled to nothing then introduced ourselves. We asked what happened. She told us she'd injured her arm when she flipped over her bicycle handlebars after a car turned in front of her.

We told her we see a lot of people healed by God when we pray with them. She agreed to let have a whack at it. My daughter and I prayed with her and commanded the pain to leave then asked it she felt anything. She said she could feel that my hands were really warm when I touched her. I realized I'd been holding my cup of coffee, which naturally made my hands warmer. I told her it was just the coffee warming my hands. We prayed a second time. While praying for her, suddenly her co-worker asked if we could heal her wrists. I yelled out, "Yes!"

The first woman still felt nothing, except my warm hands. I told her not to be discouraged - some healing takes time. We encouraged her to believe she was healed and when she was to thank God for it.

We approached the second woman and asked what was wrong. She explained that she has carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists and receives prednisone injections every three months, because she doesn't want to have surgery. I asked if she wanted to be healed. She looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Yes". I told her to hold out both arms and when she did, I commanded carpal tunnels to be open and for the spirit of pain and inflammation to leave. I didn't actually touch her. I kept my hands a few inches from hers so she wouldn't feel the warmth of my hands. I asked what the felt.

"Wow" she said, rubbing her wrists. "It feels warm in this one and the other one is tingling."

"That's the power of God healing you."

I asked her to put her arms out again and prayed a second time. Smiling, she said, "It's like I can feel the energy going into my wrists. Yeah...there's definitely an energy that I can feel."

We spoke with them for a few minutes about believing that they were healed. We told them both that God loved them, which they knew since it seemed like they were both Christians.

It's funny how the simple things like getting coffee at a convenience store can become God moments, if you're only willing to take a chance now and then.

Hey - it's your turn now. Go ahead. Take a chance. Then send me an e-mail and let me know what happened.

A Second Chance at Healing

Amy (not her real name) was in our new employee orientation class. When we told the group what we did, she said she was a detail technician. I didn't even know we had detail techs. Her job is to clean up after me. When we cover the ambulance in mud, she washes it. When we leave fast food garbage on the floor, she cleans it up. My mother doesn't work here, but Amy does and I'm glad we have people like her.

We both worked on the west side of Phoenix in Glendale. On October 17th 2011, early in the morning as she made her way out to the wash bay, I noticed that she was limping and asked what was wrong. She showed me her painful, swollen knee, wrapped in a support device. I asked if could pray with her to be healed. With some fear about what I planned to do, she agreed. I prayed over her knee three times but she felt nothing.

On the same day that I prayed with her, I prayed with a different co-worker, who had a partially torn Achilles tendon and back pain. He was healed, but she wasn't. That story can be found here.

That day and for a few days following, I asked God why one person was healed and the other wasn't. Here's what I heard:

The man with the Achilles tendon injury was healed because he gladly received his healing without fear or worry. Amy was afraid I would hurt her and that fear prevented her from being healed. It wasn't that God could not heal her. It wasn't that He didn't want her healed. It was because she could not receive healing in a state of fear.

I was disappointed. I really wanted her to be healed. I've seen her a few times since then and she still walks with a limp.

On December 2 2011, I worked an overtime shift in Mesa. Amy saw me loading my gear in the ambulance. She came over and asked why she wasn't healed.

I told her I talked to God about it and thought it was because she was afraid of being hurt. I asked her to explain why she thought I was going to hurt her. It turns out, her father asked her the same question, "Do you want to be healed?" When she said yes, he hit her hard on her injured knee. So when I asked her the same question, she was afraid I would do the same thing.

I told her I had no reason to hurt her and let her know that the offer was still open. If she wanted to be healed God would heal her. She said she wanted to be healed.

We sat on the couch in the day room. She showed me her swollen knee, wrapped in a black elastic bandage for support. I asked God to bring his presence upon her then asked what she felt.

"I feel really relaxed and at peace."

I commanded the swelling, inflammation and pain to leave and commanded the ligaments, tendons, muscles, nerves, cartilage and bones to be healed. She felt heat, which increased each time I prayed over her knee.

While her knee was being healed I taught her about the battle over healing. I warned her that the symptoms might return, told her to stand in faith and believe she was healed and to command the symptoms to leave if they returned the same way I did to make them leave. She seemed to understand.

I saw Amy yesterday. It's been three weeks since she was healed. I asked how her knee felt. She said it felt great. I asked if she was serious. With a smile, she looked at me and said, "Yeah - it feels great!"

When Amy wasn’t healed, the easiest way to explain the lack of healing would be to assume that God didn’t want her to be healed. The fact that she was healed at a later date demonstrates that it wasn't a problem with God. It was a problem with man. Unfortunately, we often blame God when healing doesn’t happen. But that should be the last explanation we consider.

The most likely explanation for failed healing is our own lack of faith. The next thing to consider is that some obstacle may present in the life of the one we’re praying with that needs to be removed. Sometimes it’s a spirit of sickness, sometimes it’s an attitude toward us or God that needs to change. In this case, it was fear. Once the fear was removed she was healed.

Healing is meant to draw people into a loving relationship with Jesus. Fear and love don't work well together. We are representatives of God and His kingdom. If someone fears that we're going to hurt them, that fear can become generalized. They may fear that Jesus will hurt them or that Christians in general are out to hurt people. Our best approach in dealing with fear is to assure them they have no reason to be afraid of us or God by demonstrating His love and compassion toward them.

Perfect love casts out all fear.

Holy Spirit Breaks Out at Football Game

Jason Chin took the love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to a football game and 40 people got to know God a little better.

If you are a Christian, you can do this too.
