What Are You Talking About?

by Andi Trout Reese

Published here on Facebook - re-posted with permission

After a conversation today with a friend on the subject of healing, I felt it was time to share one of the biggest lessons God ever taught me in the area of healing. In my experience with praying for the sick, this seems to be the biggest obstacle people face in receiving and keeping their healing. The words of their mouth.

Proverbs 18:21 - Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Back in 1992 I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse. That is a condition where the mitral valve in the heart is basically deformed. It does not function properly and causes a backwash of blood in the heart which is very painful, and it can also cause fainting due to improper circulation of the blood. I had seen doctors and cardiologists and had tests run. They told me that this is something, because of being a deformity of the valve, that people have all their lives, but it is usually in adulthood when the symptoms begin to show up.

As soon as I got the diagnosis I stepped forward in church to have the Pastor and his wife lay hands on me and pray for my healing according to James 5:14-15:

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.
Knowing that God is faithful to His Word, I believed from the moment hands were laid on me that I was healed. God is not a liar! If His Word says we are healed, and it does in so many places, then we are. God has given me the kind of faith that grabs ahold of the promises of God like a pit bull latches onto a steak and locks down. No one and nothing can pry it loose no matter how hard they try! And let me tell you, the enemy, the devil, tried his best!

For the following year I continued to praise God for my healing. Almost daily I faced the pain and symptoms of Mitral Valve Prolapse on my body. Every time I did I began to thank God for healing me. I would declare His Word (my sword) over my body and thank Him for His faithfulness. I did not allow the pain or symptoms to dictate to me whether or not I was healed. I would only allow His Word to do that, and His Word said I was healed. I never spoke to anyone of the pain. During this year God used me to pray for so many sick people. I saw Him heal so many illnesses and diseases and cancers, and all the while the enemy kept hurling pain and symptoms on my body. But I wasn't budging!

After a year I was at the doctors office for something unrelated, and they ordered an echocardiogram to "check things out". Well, I was so excited because I knew it would be evidence of what He had already done! And sure enough, when the results came back it was confirmed! A CREATIVE MIRACLE! My mitral valve was perfectly formed and functioning normally. On the way home that day I was singing His praises and rejoicing in the fact that I now had evidence of what I had believed and stood on all along.

Then He began to speak to me and He showed me that my healing was complete the day my Pastor and his wife laid hands on me. That the pain that was coming on my body was lying symptoms placed there by the enemy of my soul, trying desperately to get me to speak the words of defeat, to confess that I was not healed. See if I would have done that, I would have signed for the "package" he was trying to deliver; sickness. And I would have lost the precious healing God gave me.

After learning that, I have seen over and over again that this is where many people actually lose the healing that Jesus paid such a high price for. I have laid hands on those in pain and prayed for their healing. I have felt the fire of God in my hand going into their bodies (not that anything at all needs to be felt, but He does that at times to help our faith), and I have had people tell me that my hands felt like fire. Then as soon as the prayer is over they begin speaking about "their" cancer, "their" diabetes, "their' pain. . . Healing lost by the words of their mouth. THAT is the fruit of our lips! That is the fruit we eat according to our scripture in Proverbs. If we speak sickness and pain, we will eat the fruit of our lips!

If we are going to receive God's promise of healing and keep it, it is VITAL that we get into agreement with His Word NO MATTER WHAT. Remember He is not a liar:

Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?

Stop agreeing with the enemy of your soul, the one who wants to kill and defeat you, and begin to line up your words and actions with the LOVER of your soul, Jesus! And begin to see and experience the abundant life that He has promised!

John 10:10 -
The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).

The Biblical Basis For Healing

I never thought I'd write this message. I'm grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to share with my friends these thoughts on a subject I so dearly love. As a former atheist, I'm the last person anyone would expect to write about divine healing. Even as a Christian, I was skeptical of the miraculous for years. But one night, all that changed as God appeared to this skeptic and said,

"Yes, I still heal and I'm going to use you to do it."

As Christians, we're instructed to carry the gospel of grace to the world as Jesus and His disciples did. Wherever the gospel goes it's to be confirmed by demonstrations of God's power. (See Mark 16:20 and Acts 14:3) One of those demonstrations is healing. When I became interested in healing, I noticed something I'd never seen in the gospels before. Jesus healed a lot of people. That's not a big secret, but it's easy to miss just exactly how many people he actually healed. As I studied His life, I realized that there wasn't much else Jesus did that we could call 'ministry'. He taught in the synagogues and preached the kingdom as people followed him. But He spent an enormous amount of time engaged in and teaching people about healing. The more I studied His life, the more I knew there was something important missing from mine.

The Old Testament is rich with passages that taught God's people about His character and nature. Each of God's names describes something about Him that was unknown to them at the time. In Exodus 15:26, God revealed that one of His attributes concerned healing:

“If you listen carefully to the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.”

God revealed dozens of things about himself through His names. Now He wanted them to know that along with being Jehovah Jireh (the Lord who provides) and Jehovah Shalom (the Lord who is their peace) He was also Jehovah Rapha - the Lord who healed them. Healing is one of God's unchanging attributes, for God's plans may change, but He himself never changes. (Mal 3:6) If God's nature was to heal then, He is still our healer today.

Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for many. His death demonstrated God's unconditional love for us and His desire to forgive. He came to reconcile those who were alienated and redeem that which was lost. He came to teach those who lived in darkness. And He came to reveal the Father's heart to His creation. Nowhere is the father's abundant mercy and compassion more clearly seen than in the healing miracles performed by the Rabbi who called himself the 'son of man'.

When Jesus suffered beating and death on the cross, he not only obtained salvation for us, but He obtained our healing from sickness and death. In Isaiah 53:5, the prophet declared the things the Lord would suffer and how His suffering would benefit us:

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

With His suffering and death, Jesus purchased our healing. But healing, like forgiveness, must be obtained by those who want it. In the same way we are given the ministry of reconciliation, whereby we assist others in being reconciled to God, we’re also ministers of healing, whereby we help others to obtain mercy from God in the form of healing. God has always used man as His agent to enforce His will upon the earth.

In John chapter 5, we read that Jesus did nothing of himself, but only what He saw His Father doing. Apparently, Papa was into healing; Jesus healed everywhere he went, even when it got him in trouble. He healed all who came to Him. No one was turned away. It was often said that all the sick from the villages were brought to him and He healed them all. I find that incredible. It was God's will to heal anyone who wanted it.

In healing the multitudes, it's likely that he healed a few people who thought sickness was part of God's plan for them and others who believed they had something to learn from their disability. Healing destroys these ideas. Jesus brought the kingdom of God to earth and wherever the kingdom goes, it destroys belief systems that are opposed to it. In life we will have tribulation. God allows our character to be refined through testing. Jesus didn't miraculously solve all the problems of those he ministered to, but He always healed the sick, raised the dead and cast out demons - without exception. One might argue that God uses hardship for a divine purpose, but it's hard to demonstrate from scripture that sickness is a part of that process.

The life of Job is often used as an illustration of how sickness can be used by God for His divine purpose. That debate won't be settled here. But I would like to mention one undeniable truth that came from Job's experiences. The agent of Job's affliction was revealed to be Satan - not God. Jesus said He came to give life and that more abundantly. He then said that it was the thief who came to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10) Jesus is the agent of life and Satan is the agent of death. In calling His enemy a thief, He revealed that Satan's activities are unauthorized or illegal. The fact that stealing is illegal, doesn’t stop people from committing robbery. There are agents authorized to fight that illegal activity. Sickness is likewise illegal and unauthorized. That doesn't prevent the enemy from breaking the law and causing sickness. In the same way police fight crime, which is illegal, we are commissioned to fight sickness. Healing is a matter of enforcing God's laws and His kingdom on the earth.

Healing is an act of mercy on the part of God, to relieve suffering, pain and even premature death. It comes to us through grace, which is freely given to all who accept it. In the same way that salvation is freely given and not earned, healing is freely given. In other notes, I discuss why it seems that God doesn't want everyone healed.

Jesus taught His disciples to heal by example. After choosing the twelve, He gave them power and authority to heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead and preach the gospel. (See Matt. 10) That was their commission. A short time later, He commissioned the seventy with the same instructions. Their task was to travel through the towns of Israel, meet strangers, build relationships and if they found any who were sick, demon-possessed or dead, they were to fix the problem and preach the kingdom of heaven. In regard to healing, there were no illnesses or people excluded. The only restriction was geographic; they had to remain in Israel's borders, because the gospel went to the Jews before the Gentiles. This was what Jesus intended His church activities to look like. As amazing as the ministry of Jesus was, He told his disciples, they would do even greater things:

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. (John 14:12)

Objections
The most common objection to modern healing is the doctrine of cessationism, which teaches that miracles and manifestations of the Holy Spirit ended with the death of the original apostles or a few centuries later when the New Testament cannon of scripture was established.

Some point to the fact that early church leaders suffered illness. They use this as evidence of a decreasing emphasis on healing as the gospel spread and that once the gospel had been preached sufficiently, there was no more need for confirmation by signs and wonders. A similar idea is that once the New Testament cannon had been established, there was no further need for the miraculous.

This line of reasoning is flawed in a couple of ways. First, it assumes that the only benefit of healing is to confirm the message of the gospel. The truth is; healing is an observable demonstration of God’s character. God is merciful and part of His nature is to heal the sick. We see what the invisible God is like when we witness the miracle of healing. If God stopped healing, would we not conclude that His nature had changed?

The second problem with cessationism is that its adherents make a series of assumptions; none of which are supported in scripture itself. A cornerstone of cessationism is the observation that sickness was present among early church leaders. From this they infer that healing began to decline, causing the church to live with sickness as the ‘apostolic age’ came to a close. But the narrative passages mentioning the illnesses of Paul, Timothy and Epaphroditus don’t elaborate on whether their illnesses were chronic or acute or if they were eventually healed. There is no direct teaching to support the assumption that healing decreased in the early church.

The third problem for cessationism is that healing miracles, including resurrections are still happening today. Iris ministries based in Zimbabwe, has documented hundreds of resurrections while bringing the good news to the most impoverished nation in the world. If healing had ceased centuries ago, this would be impossible.

Many denominations in the church still deny healing today. Religious traditions die hard. The major hurdle for most of us is daring to believe the word of God instead of what well – meaning leaders tell us. It’s a process of renewing our minds to the plain truth of scripture and lining up our hearts with the heart of the Father.

The other issue is identity. Many of us believe we are powerless sinners, saved by grace; unworthy of the high calling to heal the sick and raise the dead. God has given us power and authority, but we’ve never seen that power in action. We’re called to be God’s ambassadors, enforcing His victory over sickness and death, but we’ve never seen a common cold healed. We are commissioned to cast out demons, but our friends and family suffer the torment of the demonic as we watch in helplessness. God has given every believer authority and power to conquer all these things. What we’ve done in the past does not dictate what we’ll do in the future. We are more than conquerors and we are the ones who must enforce the victory Jesus won for us at the cross.

I once stood opposed to God, but now I'm His servant and friend. I once was opposed to healing, but now God heals through me almost daily. At times He has healed people I haven't even prayed for. His presence follows me, his Spirit works in me and His loves flows through me to all whom He loves. Once you put your feet upon the path of healing like I have, you'll never want to live any other way.

Friday The 13th

"I'm sorry Mrs. Jones. I know you were hoping to go home today, but your tests reveal a few things we need to keep an eye on for at least another day. We need to admit you for observation and we don't have any open beds at our hospital. We've arranged to have an ambulance take to a hospital across town."

A few minutes later, we arrived at the bedside of a sweet woman of 94 years who was being admitted for congestive heart failure. We did the introductions and prepared to move her to the gurney.

She wanted to do it herself, but it was obvious she needed help. We assisted her from the bed to the gurney and during the move, I noticed she had a hard time standing on her right leg. I asked why. She said she had severe pain from arthritis in her right knee. Before leaving the ER I suggested we might get that healed on the trip.

I saved the details for later.

Once we were underway and I had her vitals charted, I shared a few healing stories with her, including the story of the woman healed of a torn rotator cuff. After the testimonies, I asked if I could pray over her knee. She was happy to have me do it. She didn't feel anything different the first time I commanded the pain to leave, so I did it again. After the second time, she said the pain was going down. I did it a third time and asked how she felt. She said, "It feels really good, now."

I asked if she was lying.

She laughed and said, "No....it really does feel much better now.' We took her to her room and transferred her to the bed. She gave me a big hug before I left and thanked me for praying with her.

Our next patient was 44 years old. She’s had “cyclic vomiting” her entire life. I’d never heard of it before, but it sounded terrible. She’d been throwing up for 12 straight days and had severe abdominal pain despite the meds she was given. She was cranky, miserable and needy. Her nurse warned that she wasn't a happy camper. I wasn't looking forward to this trip.

We got her loaded and she asked about pain medication. I told her we couldn't give her anything. She proceeded to flop around in misery on the gurney. I thought about ignoring her.

Then I noticed that her face sheet said she was a Christian. I decided to ask if I could pray with her. It's rare when Christians will say no to prayer.

She said yes.

So I place my hand on her stomach and commanded it to be healed, I commanded unclean spirits to leave, and invited the peace of God to surround her. A few minutes later she said all the pain was gone and she felt completely peaceful. Then she told me about the near – death experience she had as a girl and how her father met her and told her it wasn’t her time to go yet.

We shared stories the rest of the way and talked about how great God was and I taught her how to keep her healing. By the time we got to the other hospital she was crying tears of joy one minute and laughing out loud the next. Before I left her room she hugged me and thanked me for praying with her.

This was how my day went on Friday May 13th. If this day is so unlucky, why did all my patients get healed?

The following day, I saw the nurse who gave report and told her the story. She thought it was cool and said I need my own TV show. I told her I have the next best thing; a website with hundreds of amazing God stories. I gave her a card to the website.

I hope she reads this and drops us a line.

I really hope this inspires you to heal your patients. It's not as hard as it seems.

We all need a few more hugs.

The Power of the Prince of Peace

Originally posted by Jason McCoy on Facebook - republished with author's permission.

Got back from the ER just a bit ago...helping a man who had been in a car accident. When I arrived, the man was very disoriented and very hostile. He was yelling and demanding they let him go home...there were nurses and a doctor there who were intimating he was going to be committed. I wasn't able to pray for him directly because of all the conversation and agitation going on, so just prayed in tongues and released my peace into the room.

The doctors called security and a big dude came in the room. For some reason, they all left for a moment and as I took the man's hands and commanded the life of Christ to fill him and transform his body and mind, he became peaceful. As the medical folks returned to tell him he would be committed, I continued to release peace into him and into the room. The security guy looked ready for action...but then the atmosphere shifted and everything was quiet and peaceful. The man layed down in the bed! His sister left to get him a drink and everyone else mysteriously left as well. I continued praying in the spirit for him and he went to sleep!

As he rested, I commanded demonic spirits to leave him and he would flinch, moan and sigh. When his sister returned, she commented that his coloring had changed and I realized he had been very yellow but now was totally normal! He continued to rest peacefully.

This struck me because Jesus gave us power to not only rescue the prisoners and to heal, but to change environments and I was impacted tonight by how much it made a difference. At first, I was frustrated I couldn't pray directly for him but as I focused on changing the environment, it really did. There were moments at first where I felt I may end up in the midst of a melee, but it was so potent to simply be confident/ able to rest in what Jesus had already provided for this man and to release it instead of having to work at it. It's hard to explain, but I feel a shift has taken place in me and I'm excited to continue to grow in this kind of confidence/rest. (and I'm very glad for this man to be at peace right now, free from such torment). It really was a wonderful thing to be a part of.

The Prince of Peace kicked out the tormentor!

Navajo Jeff James and Raising The Dead

This story was originally published here on the Bridgeway Church blog.

On April 10th and 11th Greg Morgan and John Carvey brought me (Rick Mann) and Jim Rogers to the Navajo Nation to pray for a congregation in Ganado. While there I got to be good friends with a pretty new Christian, Jeff, who was like a sponge. He wanted everything that God had for him and his family. He asked me on Saturday night if anyone in our congregation at BridgeWay Church had ever experienced someone being raised from the dead. I told him about the Tanzania Team with Jim Rogers and that many miracles, including someone being raised from the dead had been witnessed. Well, Jeff said he wanted that anointing for his family and his church. He had me lay hands on him right there and give him all that BridgeWay had in God's anointing. This guy is hungry for the Lord to move.

Sunday's service lasted from 9am to around 4pm. Jim and I prayed for the fire of the Holy Spirit to fall on the congregation. Many of the parishioners from the Ganado church came back in the prayer line multiple times for the Lord's anointing to fall on them.

The following week I called Jeff to see how he was doing and if the Lord was still on the move there. Jeff said he was glad I called him. He had a huge testimony to share with me. He said that after the BridgeWay team left them on Sunday night, the Lord told him to stay in the spirit. Jeff said that the anointing of the Lord fell on their church in Ganado on Sunday and remained on them after we left. Monday morning he got the terrible news that his cousin had hung himself.

An ambulance took his cousin to a hospital in Albuquerque and kept him on life support until his family could come and say goodbye. They declared him brain dead upon arrival at the hospital. The Lord told Jeff to stay in the Spirit while he went to see his cousin. When they got to the hospital in Albuquerque, Jeff and his wife went in through the doctor's entrance and all of the pass card protected doors just opened for them as they went through. When they got into the room, his cousin's head was swollen and dark from the hanging injury.

The doctors told him that they tested for brain activity and he was declared brain dead. After the family said their goodbyes the hospital was planning on unhooking him. He was essentially dead already. The Holy Spirit directed Jeff to pray Romans 8: 9-11. ". . . .He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you."

After Jeff read this scripture to his cousin, tears rolled down the face of his cousin in response! After that, Jeff says that the doctors retested his cousin's brain activity on Tuesday, the next day, because they saw movement in his cousin's legs. The test showed some brain activity coming back. On Wednesday, his cousin sat up and said "get me out of here! I want to go home!"

Praise God!!!

Testimony From Nigeria

I hope you're blessed by this testimony that was recently shared at Bethel church. This amazing event happened in Nigeria and was reported from there by Jim Rogers. Jesus told his disciples to cleanse the lepers, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons and preach the gospel. This is what happens when his instructions are obeyed. The sick were healed, lepers were cleansed, the dead were raised and the gospel was preached. Amputees received new limbs and 150,000 were saved.

This is not just for Africa. It can happen anywhere the disciples of Jesus are obedient to their King.

Yes! Cancer free Today!

I've know Michael Hayes as a friend on Facebook for about a year. I found him to be one of the most inspiring and positive people I've ever met. He recently learned that he was healed of cancer and granted permission to post his testimony, which was originally published on Facebook, here.

(By Michael Hayes on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at 8:22am)

My Miracle!!! ~ As most of you know I have been battling a very aggressive form of stomach cancer and just completed my third treatment. My cancer was stage 4 and was told they could not cure it completely. The surgeon who operated on me said that in his opinion I had maybe 6 months to a year before the cancer took me away.

The chemo was to make me comfortable and relieve the pain. I ask my doctor if there was a chance, although my cancer was very aggressive, if it could go into remission. He said it is possible but not likely due to how much was there and how aggressive it was.

I had a PET scan done between the first and second chemo treatment. My sister in-Law is a nurse and we were anxious to see how my cancer had progressed. ( A PET scan is designed to highlight only cancer cells)

I had spent 36 of days of the last 2 months in a hospital bed. Many people came daily to pray with me and support me family, co-workers, friend and clergy. I had an appointment with my Oncologist and was accompanied by my sister-in -law right before my chemo treatment. The PET scan had already been completed but the results had not come in yet. The doctor stated again that this cancer was very aggressive with no chance of it being eradicated completely. The doctor had begun to talk to me about my future chemo treatments, and that I really should start to consider the quality of life in planning my future. In other words, in his opinion it was not a good outcome.

Never once did I ever believe it was my time, and prayed daily for my healing in spite of what I was told. In addition to my prayers there has been literally thousands who did the same, lifting me and my situation up to Lord. The doctor called my sister-in -law last week at work to give her the results of the PET scan. The doctor said that he didn't quite no how to explain it, but the PET scan showed absolutely no trace of cancer whatsoever!!!! The cancer was completely gone!!!

I knew the results last week but wanted a 1000% confirmation which I received today as I went in for the wrap up of my third chemo treatment. The nurse handed me a copy of the PET scan report and said " If I were you I would frame this" The doctor has ask me to continue with 6-8 more chemo treatments just to be sure there is no minute traces.

Thank you Lord for such love and favor!! God did for me what no one else could do, not even the finest physicians. Today I am cancer free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Lord you are truly amazing! Thank you all who vigilantly prayed for me daily. IT WORKED!!! Faith in action!! I am cancer free as a direct result of faith and prayer!!! I love all of you with God's love! thank you God for sending so many earthly angels!! I am free because of my faith and yours! Your prayers gave me hope each day that God's healing hand was upon me!

Yes its true God is still in the miracle making business!!! Not only will this be part of my amazing testimony, but it is a true Miracle of faith in God! I love all of you! Never give up, never stop believing!! I am living proof of what faith can do!! If know one has told you today that they love and care about you today, I just did! I am thanking, loving and praising God with all my heart today and everyday!!! ~ God bless all of you!!

Love + light,
Michael <><

The Collapse of Canada's Health Care System

You read that right.

And I know what you're thinking....

"Impossible"

On the night of April 15th, (tax day in the US) I had a dream in which Canada's very successful and highly popular public health care system failed.

Patients tried to visit doctors and get prescriptions filled, but they were turned away because there was no money to support the system. I don't recall exactly how the bankruptcy occurred, but I knew the system had run out of money. People contacted the government and complained, but the government denied there was a problem.

In the dream, I knew the government was aware of the problem, but they feared the consequences of admitting to a failure, so they lied to the public about it for as long as they could.

I've been having more dreams like this lately, where I see the catastrophic failure of large organizations. This one is related to medicine so I posted it here. I think there may also be a connection to healing.

What would we do for the sick if a national system of health care failed?

Does the Canadian government have a backup plan if such a thing were to occur?

I wonder if the citizens would be ready to use divine healing in place of conventional medicine if there were no other alternatives.

Maybe this dream was a warning to get them prepared before it happens.

I know it's a call to prayer. Let God direct you on how to pray in the matter.

- peace

Sticking Pennies To The Wall

Last night I went with my wife to the hair salon. I’ve gone with her many times before and when I do, God usually does something cool. Last night He came through again.

As Angie worked on my wife’s hair, I shared with her some of the things God’s been doing with us. Angie has been healed a number of times when we’ve prayed with her in the past. (Go here for one of those stories)

She talks often about her 8 year old son, whom we’ve never met. Last night, while mom did her thing, he sat on a chair near me playing a video game.

My friend, Michael King has been posting videos on Facebook demonstrating how to stick coins to the wall. I haven’t done this much, but we had one experience a few months ago, where a friend’s daughters taught us how to do it.

We went to my friend Tim’s house to get him healed of low-back pain. While we were there we taught his daughters how to heal, by having them pray for their mother’s injured foot. Both Tim and his wife were better after prayer. When we were done, the girls wanted to show us something. The brought out a pile of pennies and began sticking them to the kitchen wall. Since we’d been in their house, I noticed the presence of God was growing stronger. The pennies stuck like crazy.

My wife had never done it before, so we each grabbed a penny and held it to the wall and both of them stayed there for about 5 seconds. One of the girls stuck several pennies on the corner of the wall, where half the penny was hanging over the edge. If you’re inclined to believe this can be explained by surface tension or paint adhesion , when you see a penny half over the edge of a wall, staying there for 20 seconds or so, natural explanations begin to lose their explanatory power.

So there I was sitting in the salon watching Angie’s son, who was riveted to his video game. I decided to try sticking a penny to the wall. She opened her cash box and gave me a penny. I found a place on the wall, held it in place 2 or 3 times and watched it fall to the floor. I forgot one thing; invite the Holy Spirit to join us.

I asked Him to bring His presence into the room and make the penny stick to the wall. And it stuck, for about 5 seconds. Angie was shocked. I did it again and her son looked up and smiled. I did it again and they asked if it was a trick. Then I moved over to the corner and let half the penny hang over the edge and it stuck for about one second. I did this 3 or 4 times and her son dropped his game and came over by me. He wanted to know how I did it.

I explained that Jesus said signs and wonders would follow those who believe in Him and this was one of those signs. I told him, “It’s not magic; it’s the power of God. You can do the same thing, just hold the penny on the wall and ask God to hold it there when you let go.” I demonstrated a few more times, then he held it to the wall and asked God to hold it when he let go. It stuck the first time and every time afterward. He was filled with joy and wonder and forgot about his video game.

People often ask, “what’s the point of it?”

I found out last night, there are several valuable things that come from these exercises. First, sticking pennies to the wall is a tangible display of God’s power to those who don’t know Him that’s difficult to refute by natural explanations. Second, it’s an exercise in which we learn to cooperate with God and sense his presence and power at work. Angie’s son knows virtually nothing about the power of God. But after last night’s experience, he has at least one way in which he can experience God. As curious as boys are, it won’t be long before he finds other ways and his friends might be involved at some point. Third, as we cooperate with God, our faith for operating in miracles, signs and wonders grows. If we start with a simple thing like this, it can grow in many different directions including things like food multiplication and healing.

If you'd like to see videos of coins sticking to glass or forks and spoons sticking to walls, go here.

These exercises are like going to a gym and working out. Working out doesn’t have a great purpose in itself. It’s merely a way to strengthen yourself so that you can operate better when you do other things. Sticking pennies to the wall builds faith for living a kingdom lifestyle. If you spend an afternoon with friends getting to know God’s power by sticking things to the wall, or a glass door, the next time you need to release God’s power for a person with cancer, you might be surprised at how much faith you have to get them healed.

I should mention, one more thing - I love the colors Angie put my sweetie's hair. She looks rather amazing.

A New Kidney and a Dream Come True

This unusual healing story is true. The names have been omitted at the request of the people involved.

On March 29, 2011, I received the following message on Facebook:

Good morning to you ! I have a special request. My FB friend (name omitted) , an Administrator with me on our Intercessory Prayer Page inboxed me. She is very upset right now about her Pastor in her church whose only kidney is failing, not doing well. She is confused because she wonders why God didn't heal him when he gave up his BP meds a couple of years ago and branched out in faith thinking he was "healed". I don't want to get into details, thought maybe if you would please "friend her" you could help her and pray for her Pastor as well. I told her a little bit about you and that we are friends. She will be looking for you I'm sure. I gave her my views on this, but I was following some of your posts, you are more blessed in this area than I, and you have the healing ministry.
Love you Bro, and thank you ! :)

I replied:

I'll find her and send the request. And I'll pray for her pastor.

Be blessed!

Thank you so much !!!! Yes, I see she just in boxed me aout friend request, and yes, she has lots of questions about faith with healing, etc.
God bless you and thanks for your expediancy.
Have a blessed Holy Spirit filled day.

A few minutes later, after sending a friend request, I received this message from my new friend:

(Name omitted) March 31 at 8:29am
He believed God two years ago to come off of his high blood medication. God had healed him of cancer of the kindneys some 20 years ago and although he had one kidney removed because of the cancer, he refused chemotherapy and have been clean of cancer for over 20 years. When he got off his medicine cold turkey, we as members honored his faith but we also were very cautious and concerned as this move. He hung up his pill bottles on the wall to demonstrate his faith. since that time, he had been having severe headaches and pain in other parts of his body but nothing major. He just kept claiming his healing and he declared that he would not get back on his medicine even if it cost him his life. Well, time went on and he never missed a beat and we all thought he was healed until he was suddenly hospitalized. The only kidney he has left is at 25% functional and his prostate is enlarged. I really want to believe God for a miracle for him today because it bothers me that he stepped out on faith but was not healed (obviously).

I replied:

I understand your concern and frustration. I'm in prayer for him. I write a lot about healing if you're interested in another perspective on it. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send a link to a series of notes I wrote.
Be blessed!

She replied:

yes, I am interested. please send me the link, thanks!

I replied:

OK Then!
The notes are not in any particular order, though I recommend people start with "Healing 101". It sets a foundation to build on for getting grounded in the basic principles of healing.

That note can be found here:
http://www.facebook.com/editnote.php?draft&note_id=146476992057464&id=100000939408136

There are a dozen or so notes in the series. I've added links to previous ones at the bottom as I wrote more of them. The comments are mostly from friends who operate in healing ministries. I also have a number of videos about healing, if you're interested. And finally, I have a website that is full of healing testimonies, stories about healing miracles I've seen on and off the job, teaching videos and a lot of other things concerning the kingdom of God.
Blessings!

She posted this on my wall the next day:
@Praying Medic: I have a Praise Report! God has restored my Pastor back to health. He is to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. Thank you for praying and thank God for your intense healing ministry. I've been reading your blogs and learning a lot.

She then sent this message:
(Name Omitted) April 2 at 3:06pmRemember the one kidney that was severely damaged and operating at 25% and docs were talking dialysis and transplant? His wife told me this morning that when they checked his kidney again it showed they are now functioning at 100%! I know it's because I asked you to pray for him because none of this was happening until after I came in contact with you. I could not say this on your wall because I have alot if ppl who know him but Don't know about his kidney situation.

I am so blessed to hear about his miraculous healing. I have some even more amazing news for you. I have a lot of dreams about healing. Some involved God teaching me about healing, others are specific dreams about individuals who are going to be healed. He's what I wrote in my dream journal from the night of March 31:

I had the following dream: I was with a man, who needed a new kidney. He had a surgical opening in his side. The opening was clean, with no blood present. He beckoned me to come near and put my hand in his side and try to find his kidney. I placed my hand in his side and moved around some of his organs to try to locate it. (End of dream)

I wonder if the dream was about your pastor and somehow, I was able to get his new kidney from God.
May I re-post this testimony?

Uterine Tumors Healed

This was posted on my Facebook wall yesterday by a friend:

HUGE PRAISE REPORT: Last night God healed my uterine tumors. I have been suffering with these for some time now and last night in a healing service I went up for prayer and started feeling a swirling going on inside me then a heat and then it felt like something shot right into my belly and straight through my back and was stuck in there.

I asked the Lord what it was ,,and as the prayer kept going, He gave me a clear picture of a big old Sword. It was bright and lit up and it was in me, with massive heat radiating from it...I was sweating and spoke what I saw to those praying for me.

This lead them to be even more intense in their prayer and I just thanked the Lord for the healing; and kept receiving His healing. I could feel the dissipation of the tumors going on inside me. I kept thanking God and then I could see the blade start to come out. As it came sliding out quickly, just at the very same time, those who had their hands on me pulled them back suddenly, right at the very same time. I said, "He's done" and the smile is still on my face. You have to know that I have been suffering with these for some time now and do not have insurance. The pain had started to be almost unbearable.

I had to share this with brothers and sisters that I know would understand and believe and wanted to encourage others. God bless you all. I've had this condition test/documented for about 6 months, but I had been having a lot of the symptoms for at least a year. Not having any insurance though, stopped me from pursuing any medical advised, knowing that I would not be able to follow through with anything recommended.

I do plan on getting checked up, as soon as financially able to. I have to be able to pay for the doctor visit and then get a referral and pay for the test. But, I had a large bulge on my left side that is completely gone. I have, from time-to-time started having twinges inside, but I keep thanking Jesus for my healing and they go away. I would not mind at all if you posted this because I hope it would encourage others.

Chicken Strips and Wrist Immobilizers

About a month ago we paid a visit to a part of the city we really like. Northeast Tacoma is a small, residential area perched on a hill overlooking the port of Tacoma. The view is nice. But the food is amazing.

While killing time waiting for a call, we went to our favorite Shell station for fuel and food. I don't normally eat gas station food, except for an occasional ice cream bar, but this gas station makes the best chicken strips in town. While my partner filled the ambulance I got lunch.

As I ordered a 4-piece box of chicken strips, I noticed that the young woman behind the counter had a black immobilizer on her wrist, so I ask what happened and if if she wanted to be healed.

She looked at me and said, "Whatever". She was skeptical, which is understandable if you've never seen anyone healed by the power of God at a gas station.

But this wasn't my first barbecue.

Before I paid for the food, I asked her to hold out her arm and she did. She let me pray over her wrist. I commanded the wrist to be healed and the spirit of pain to leave in the name of Jesus.

After praying I asked if she felt anything. She said, "no, it still hurts." So I prayed again and asked if she felt anything. "Nope." I prayed a third time and asked if she felt any change. "Nothing - it still hurts."

I told her that sometimes people get healed, though they don't feel anything immediately. Sometimes they notice the symptoms go away the next day or even a week later. I told her I believed she was healed then thanked her and left with my chicken strips, which were awesome.

We went back to the Shell station about two weeks later for fuel and while my partner filled the tank, I went inside for some of those yummy chicken strips.

I saw the same woman behind the counter. She wasn't wearing the wrist immobilizer so I asked where it was. With a smile he said, "I don't need it anymore, my wrist feels great."

I taught her a little about how to keep her healing if the pain returned and got an order of chicken strips.

Those chicken strips are amazing, but not as amazing as our healer, Jesus!

The Proof Is In The Paralysis

This post may challenge your theology. It challenged mine.

But we're in a season where God is once again asking us to set aside some of our agendas and let Him show us things in His kingdom we haven't yet considered.

I've taken some heat lately for not standing against John Crowder, who is featured in today's testimony. To be honest, I don't know much about John. But in a recent exchange, when I didn't join others in condemning Crowder, a few people who believe he's a false teacher became angry with me.

OK, it was a little worse than that. They accused me of being deceived. One of them started his own blog to proclaim the truth I wasn't seeing. And that's pretty much how these things go.

One of the troubling things I've experienced (though it seems to happen more to my friends than to me) is the tendency of some Christians to label anyone who doesn't agree with them as a false teacher or false prophet. Crowder is one of the biggest targets for criticism these days.

So I went to the Holy Spirit and asked what's going on.

This is what I heard:

People who reject ideas that conflict with their own, do so because their identity comes from what they hold to be true. They call themselves Christian, Calvinist, Atheist, Republican, Lutheran, etc, based on what ideas they believe to be true and to some degree what experiences they've had.

For many, these labels have become their identity. Instead of taking their identity from the God, they form one based on philosophies, doctrines, morals and experiences. When confronted with a theological idea, their identity comes into question. If they affirm the idea, they allow it to become part of their identity. If they reject it, they maintain their identity.

For these people, every discussion about God or religion challenges their identity.

Herein lies a great problem.

If we tie our identity to our beliefs, every time we discuss something theological, our identity is at risk. If we don't want to change our identity every day, we must reject all experiences and teaching that differ from our own. From this, we first reject an idea. If an individual confronts our identity often enough with "false" teaching, it's easier to label them a false teacher and reject everything they say. This reduces the exposure of our identity to challenges.

This is the operating mode of people who are sometimes referred to as "heresy hunters".

There is another group, whose identity isn't tied to what they believe to be true. They take their identity from what God says about them. Some have heard Him say, "You are one of my prophets" or "You are my chosen vessel for leading worship". Once God declares their identity it never comes into question again. They believe what God said and that ends the debate.

People who take their identity from the Father can be challenged in their beliefs, because their identity isn't at stake in theological discussions. Their beliefs are a bit more flexible and will change from time to time as experiences and revelation continually shape them.

These people are free to disagree with one another without the need to label anyone a false teacher because they have little at stake personally in the discussion.

Bearing these things in mind, I'd ask you to consider this rather amazing testimony from John Crowder and his friend concerning a spiritual revival at Walmart that began with the healing of a woman who was paralyzed.

For those who aren't familiar with what it's like to be drunk in the spirit, that is what they're referring to when they talk about getting whacked, juiced, drunk, etc. They haven't been drinking alcohol. It's the same thing the apostle Peter defended when he said, "These are not drunk as you suppose.... but this is that which was spoken of by the the prophet Joel." (Acts 2:15-16)

What exactly is a demonic home? A demonic home is a fleshly environment by which gives it access and ability to live in a person. This is not a physical home, but a spiritual home. A root of bitterness for example, will create an environment or place in that person's life by which demonic spirits can enter and dwell among. God's Word tells us not to give Satan a foothold or as the KJV says, "a place to the devil."

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil. (Eph. 4:26-27)

If we go about casting out demons, but fail to remove the "place" that we've given to the devil (or his demons), then they still have a home within us. Jesus described a demon as a strongman who is armored and keeps his home, but by removing his armor (and take away his home), we can spoil his goods (the area of the person's life that was once held in bondage). Jesus went on to tell us that demons like to return to their homes:

When a strong man armed keepeth his palace [or home], his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.... When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith,I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
(Luke 11:21-22, 24-26)

Demons cannot just come back and reenter a person without having a home there. That is why it is so important that we minister to the whole person, and figure out what is the root to their bondage, then minister to the root so that the demon has no home to return to.

While there are definitely spirits of lust, anger, and so forth, there are also fleshly homes that are created by which they dwell. A spirit of bitterness cannot enter and dwell by itself, it must have a fleshly 'hook' or 'home' by which it dwells.

Examples of Demonic Homes
Please understand that these are only examples, and not every case is the same. Some bondages may be different than the examples below even though the same demons may be at work. These examples are only here to give you an idea of how demon homes work.

Lust and Pornography
Pornography and lust are known to be rooted in a lack of love. If a person grows up not feeling loved, then there's a good chance they will turn to pornography or lust to fulfill that need which was never met by their parents or family. Let's say that we're about to cast out a demon of lust in somebody; let's first look at the flow of bondage here:

An unmet need to be loved and appreciated CREATED a fleshly bondage to pornography WHICH IS a demonic home THAT CONTAINS a nest of demons (lust, pornography, perversion, etc.).

First we need to minister to the root cause to the fleshly problem, then we need to clean up the fleshly problem itself (which is the demonic house), and then cast out the demons. The person must come to learn how they are loved, accepted, and appreciated by their heavenly Father. Then they need to repent and renounce their bondage to pornography, lust, and so forth. Then it is time to begin casting out the demons that have been holding the person in bondage.

Rejection
Next, let's take a young man by the name Joe. Joe has been rejected as a child by his peers, and today has a terrible bondage to rejection, thus making it difficult to create meaningful relationships with others. Joe feels all alone, and even when others aren't rejecting him, he perceives even a simple "no" as a form of rejection. Joe has difficulty receiving correction because he perceives it as an attack on him personally. As a result of feeling rejected, Joe naturally fell into a bondage to rebellion, which set him up for further rejection. Those are just a few of the things that Joe struggles with. We could go about casting out the demon of rejection, or we could minister to the root of Joe's problem. With Joe's situation, the flow of bondage looks something like this:

A deep wound that was created when others rejected him CREATED a fleshly bondage where Joe felt worthless and worthy to be rejected WHICH BUILT a stronghold of self-hate, self-rejection, and so forth WHICH WAS a demonic homeTHAT CONTAINED a nest of demons (rejection, rebellion, self-hate, etc.).

A similar flow of bondage may look something like this:

A deep wound that was created when others rejected him CREATED a fleshly need to be accepted and a stronghold of rejection (or a way of perceiving yourself as rejected) WHICH WAS a demonic home THAT CONTAINED the demons of rebellion, rejection, and so forth.

Bitterness
Let's take a woman by the name Susan who was molested by her father when she was a young girl. Ever since then, she's had a terrible time feeling clean inside, and establishing genuine and meaningful relationships. Such a bondage plays havoc with marriages all the time, as it makes it very difficult for the wife to truly bond and enjoy physical and emotional intimacy with her husband. We could start out by casting out the demons which entered in through the molestation, OR, we could minister to her in such a way that brings true and lasting freedom. Susan's flow of bondage might look something like this:

A deep wound and feeling "used" that was created because of the molestationCREATED a feeling of unforgiveness and hatred towards her father (and often men in general) WHICH IS a demonic home THAT CONTAINS spirits of hate, anger, resentment, and so forth.

Our first step is to deal with the wound, and let Susan know that she had a right to hate and be angry with her father for the terrible thing which was done to her. It is a right that God gives us, but He also asks us to yield that right to Him. God's Word tells us to let God avenge wrath (see Romans 12:19), for when we give Him that right, He says that He will repay. Much of the problem with unforgiveness is that we don't really believe that God will bring justice to that situation. Susan must realize that although her father is off of her hook, he's still accountable to God for his actions. Susan has also lost sight of what Jesus has done for her, and what a steep and terrible price that Jesus paid for her own sins. Dealing with the unforgiveness root will tear down the demon house, so that when the demons are cast out, they have nowhere to return to.

Exceptions
Sometimes you cast out demons first, depending on what the Holy Spirit leads. There are valid situations where it is best to get rid of the demonic factor first so that you can more clearly deal with the root issues. Sometimes demons must be cast out before the person can freely receive healing to their damaged emotions. However, use caution when going after the demons up front, as the they love to return when their fleshly house still exists. This is why I generally like to take the safe route (laid out in this teaching) as a default method, unless the Holy Spirit prompts me otherwise. However, be prepared for the Holy Spirit to lead otherwise, because there are times when I believe it is necessary.

In any case, when you're finished with the deliverance process, then both the root should be cleaned up as well as the demons cast out. Whatever steps are taken to get there may vary, but that should always be our goal when ministering deliverance and inner healing.

Understanding Bondage
Whenever you find yourself casting out the same demons from the same person over and over again, then there's a good chance there is a demonic home which the demon keeps returning to. I like how Charles Kraft describes demons as rats which feed off of garbage in our barn. We can keep on casting the rats out, but unless we clean up the garbage by which they are feeding, then they will keep coming back. Balanced deliverance ministry is typically focused on cleaning up the garbage even more than casting out the demons, because it is the key to ministering true and lasting freedom. I'm not saying that casting out the demons isn't important (it is VERY important!), but if we keep on casting out the same demons and they keep coming back, what good are we doing?

This is why I highly encourage every deliverance minister to take the time to study and learn the roots of the popular spiritual bondages. Make it your mission to understand what brings on various bondages to lust and pornography, anger problems, and so forth. Yes, there are demons involved in most of these situations, but there are also fleshly roots that we need to minister to, so that when we cast out the demons, they do not return. It is vital for deliverance ministers to take the time to learn and understand the bondages that are plaguing many people today so that we can effectively minister genuine and lasting freedom.

Praying For Birth Defects

I had a dream one night about healing people with birth defects such as Down syndrome. I didn't know anyone who needed prayer for birth deffects so I posted it as a word of knowledge on Facebook. Many of my friends responded with excitement and began praying with increased faith for the healing of their friends and family members. I prayed for people I'd received prayer requests for. In my mind, the dream was just for Facebook friends. This happened on the first of my two nights off duty.

When I returned to work two days later, my first patient was a 5 year old girl with Down syndrome. I was a little shocked. Could the dream have been a word of knowledge for her?

With excitement, I told the girl's mother about the dream. She was a Christian. She gave me permission to pray with her daughter. She had acute bronchiolits, but her main problem was a gradual left-sided weakness that she’d had for about a month. A CAT scan showed that she had a misaligned C-1/ C-2 joint, which was suspected of causing the weakness. We took her to a larger hospital that had the capability of pediatric neurosurgery. Her father rode along. I told him about the dream. He was overjoyed that I wanted to pray for her.

In the ambulance, I prayed over the girl as her father prayed in tongues. I commanded her neck to be healed and for Down's syndrome to be healed. Without the dream, I may not have had the faith to pray for that. We talked about the Lord and the great things He had done in our lives. We navigated the maze of hallways and arrived at our destination. After giving report to the staff and moving her to bed, her father grabbed my hand and thanked me. I have him a hug a card for the website and asked him to contact me and let me know how she did.

If he sends word, I'll let you know.
