Spirit-led Healing

Jesus_Heals_Demon_possessed_man

I was asked by a friend whether we should always wait for the Holy Spirit to show us who He wants to heal before praying with a stranger. This is one of the most common questions people have about healing.

Being led by the Holy Spirit is always our goal, and we need to cooperate with Him in every healing or deliverance encounter. While it's true that He will sometimes highlight certain people for healing that we are not aware of, it is not necessary to always wait for Him to highlight people for healing. The question of whether we should wait for Him to show us certain individuals arises when we are uncertain about whether it is God's will to heal all people or only certain ones.

It is difficult to pray with faith when we are uncertain about God's will for healing. We can know with certainty His will toward healing by looking at the New Testament. The gospels give us a clear understanding of the Father's will through the ministry of Jesus who healed multitudes of people of every kind of disease and demonic oppression:

"When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick." (Matthew 8:16)

Jesus never refused to heal anyone who came to him, in fact, it is likely that He spent entire days doing nothing but healing people until He was exhausted. The will of God for healing was further revealed when Jesus commissioned His disciples to heal the sick and cast out demons making no exceptions about who was to be healed:

"Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give." (Matthew 10:8)

We see the disciples doing this exact thing in the book of Acts after Jesus ascended into heaven:

“Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed." (Acts 5:16)

The scriptures give no indication that there were any exceptions to healing in the ministry of Jesus or the disciples. If it is the will of God to heal all who are sick and demonized, then being Spirit-led is not an issue of who can be healed, but how they should be healed.

Looking at the model Jesus gave us, we see that with one person, He told them to arise and walk. For another it was a touch that healed their blindness. For someone else it was a little mud in their eye and with another, He told their friend to go home because they were already healed. Jesus used different methods for healing each person based on what the will of the Father was for their unique situation. This is what He meant when He said, "The son only does what He sees the Father doing." (John 5:19)

Being led by the Spirit has to do with the particular method God wants us to use to heal each person. Sometimes it will be a touch, sometimes a command, sometimes we'll ask them to get up from their wheelchair and attempt to walk. Just as Jesus was led to do certain things to release a miracle, we must learn to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in how He wants us to bring healing to each person we encounter.

An Uncomfortable Healing Testimony

This testimony came from a friend a few days ago. For the sake of privacy, his name is being omitted.

For a couple of weeks, I had a problem when I visited the men’s room: every time I used the toilet paper, it came away with blood on it. I said to myself “No big deal, it’s just a little bit of blood. It’ll go away.”

But it didn’t go away, and soon it was not “a little bit” of blood, but a vivid pool of blood (mixed in with other things) left in the toilet when I was through, and it took extra toilet paper to mop up the blood. One night, I spent much of the night in the men’s room, making substantial hourly deposits of diarrhea and blood. I lost about 3 pounds that night.

After one particularly bad episode shortly before dawn, I stumbled back to bed and determined to try to change my thoughts. Instead of continuing to bemoan the (very) unpleasant circumstances, I tried to look at the situation from heaven’s perspective. I began by repenting for the foolish belief that I needed somebody else to pray for me and accepted the responsibility for praying for myself. I turned my attention toward heaven, and settled my spirit with Holy Spirit. It’s a nice place.

In that settled place, I brought up my physical issue, and in a few minutes, he showed me a portion of his grace that he said would fit my need. So I accepted that bit of grace, and as an act of faith, I applied it to my colon (all this happened as I watched it, inside my head; how do you describe that?). As I applied it, I felt something change: a place inside my physical body where there had been a pain shifted into an itch, but there was no real way to measure a change, since I was pretty empty by this point.

When the morning arrived, I was surprised to discover that I had reason to visit the men’s room, and the results had no blood and no diarrhea, and it hasn’t come back. I was still dehydrated from the night’s adventures, but that was easily addressed with several glasses of water. I’ve decided I like having God heal me.

Kansas City Healing Revival

A little over a month ago, the Holy Spirit began a new work in Kansas City, Missouri, at the International House of Prayer (IHOP). It has brought a great work of healing and deliverance, especially among teenagers and young adults. This video explains some of the experiences they've seen so far.

Taking It To The Streets

I'm getting prepared. I'm not sure where I'm going yet, but I'm making plans for a trip. Summer is upon us rather suddenly this year. I like that and so does my wife. It seems like a few weeks ago we had snow in the driveway and now it's close to 90 every day. Things change suddenly.

I've been noticing a lot of people with health problems lately. I can't seem to get away from them. Every trip to the grocery store, gas station or Home Depot puts me next to someone with paralysis from a stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis or something similar. I feel a tug on my heart that's growing more intense. I just want to walk up to everyone I see who has some sickness and asking if I can pray for them. Sometimes I chicken out, other times I approach them and ask if they want prayer.

At work I've been plagued with thoughts of going through one nursing home after another and praying for each resident to be healed. I visualize myself going from room to room praying with each person - sometimes thinking I don't care if it takes all day for this person to get healed - I'm staying here until it happens. Yeah, I know - its a big dream. But God makes dreams come true. He places his desire in us to motivate us to do the things He wants to accomplish. No, I haven't seen any miraculous healings in person yet. But it's coming. One day I'm going to pray for someone and they will be healed - suddenly.

God likes to do things suddenly. I believe He does it to catch the enemy off guard. It takes a while for the enemy to adjust to new things, just like it takes us time to sort out and get comfortable with something new. God can use this to His (and our) advantage. But we must go along with the changes and flow in the direction the Spirit wants to take us.

This Saturday I'm getting together with some folks who share a common vision. We all have a desire to see God's light penetrate the darkest recesses of our culture. We want to see his love poured out on the unsuspecting ones He is drawing to Himself. Personally, I hope to see hearts, minds and bodies healed. There are a lot of people God wants to reach with His love. Many of these people have no interest in what we call 'church'. They won't come to us, so God is sending us to them. For several years this group has set up a canopy of shade at community events and offered prophetic 'words of encouragement', prayer and dream interpretation to those who show up. I'm going on a spiritual adventure this summer; going where ever the Spirit leads me.

I believe God is going to do something suddenly this summer as we take to the streets. About a week ago I had a dream in the early morning, just before waking. I was driving my car in Olympia and suddenly something came down from the sky toward me. It was like a large bird swooped down and came to rest, hovering right above me. This was what I 'saw' going on in the natural realm, with my eyes. But there was something else going on. I can only describe it as happening in the spiritual dimension. When the bird descended, I became aware that I had received an invitation to attend the meeting for the prophetic street ministry. It was like a spiritual e-mail. When I opened it, I felt an incredible revival break out in my soul. I developed a much deeper passion for God and a wave of joy overpowered me. In the dream, I forwarded the e-mail to other people I knew.

The interpretation of the dream is simple. Vehicles represent ministry; that's the subject of the dream. God plans to change something about my ministry. It shows a similarity to the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan river when the Holy Spirit descended on Him, in the form of a dove. (see Matthew 3:16) This was the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus. Immediately afterward he went into the wilderness to fast and endure temptation, then came out of the wilderness in the power of the Spirit, teaching and working miracles.

Most of what I do as 'ministry' is confined to my ambulance. It isn't really public. I believe the dream foretells a visitation from the Holy Spirit for me and others who will be taking our gifts and going public with them. I believe God will anoint those who desire to carry the glory and power of God in a greater measure this coming season. I believe it's an invitation to step out in faith with a little more boldness and 'go public' with what God has called us to do. If we do this, I believe God will back us up.

I have a feeling that this summer is going to be a hot one, literally and spiritually. I believe we're going to see the fires of a true, large - scale revival spread. This fall and winter we should see a great harvest. But revival starts inside each of us, and the message from my dream is that I have to get involved and commit myself to the work of God, then He will send fire down from heaven to make me burn with a passion for it.

I watched some videos this morning that encouraged me a lot. There is a 5 minute video below of Todd White praying with people for healing on a boardwalk. There is a second video interview of Todd describing the way to walk in kingdom power. If the short videos interest you, there is a longer video that's an interview with Todd about his life. (The link to the Extreme Prophetic video is posted below) He describes his transformation from a drug addicted criminal to a passionate, loving, street-healer. He tells about his early days of praying for people and seeing no fruit. Months and months of praying and not one miracle. Then suddenly, someone was instantly healed. He's been seeing miracles of healing just about every day since then. The video shows him at work on the streets. You and I can walk in that same power if we're willing to commit ourselves to trusting in the promises of God.

It Starts Here

This site is dedicated to the millions of sick and injured people waiting to be healed. I believe we have entered a season in which God will deliver that healing touch. It's my prayer that through healing, God's incredible love for us will be made known.

My desire is to share the things I see God doing in the realm of supernatural healing. He's begun to demonstrate healing in isolated places; I believe this will spread to other areas. God has revealed a plan to heal many people within my sphere of influence in the near future . This revelation has come through dreams, visions, books, prayer, my own study time in the bible and prophetic words from others.

The inspiration for this project came from my friend David McLain. I've only met him briefly in person, but his vision and passion for communicating the things of God has affected me greatly. I am grateful for his mature counsel and child-like spirit. He has blessed me like crazy!

Here's my story:

I am a paramedic. I work in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. For some reason known only to Him, I've been blessed with a promise from God. In July of 2008, I read a book written by a cardiologist in which he shared his experiences from praying with his patients. The title of the book is, "A Physician's Witness to the Power of Shared Prayer"
http://www.amazon.com/Physicians-Witness-Power-Shared-Prayer/dp/0595094376

While reading this book the Holy Spirit convicted me and asked me to begin praying with my patients. I struggled briefly with fear and reluctance and tried to come up with (lame) excuses why I shouldn't do this. But I gave in and started praying for everyone I transported. I was surprised how many people actually wanted me to pray with them.

At the same time this was happening, I began to hear the Holy Spirit speak to me of things to come. I didn't know what to make of it. I knew I wasn't crazy, but I wasn't sure what to do with this information. So I began keeping a daily journal - writing down the things God was revealing to me. Many of the posts you'll find on this site are taken from my journal.

One of the things He revealed to me was that on August 8th 2008, (8/8/08) something major was going to change in my life. I had no idea what it was. On August 8th, 2008, after 3 weeks of praying for my patients, God did something I never expected. He came to me in a series of dreams and visions during the night. He began showing me medical conditions that my patients would have and said that if I continued praying for my patients He would heal some of them. As of this writing He has revealed his desire to heal about 15 patients I have seen. All of them have conditions that are essentially incurable.

I'd like to state a few things at this point. Prior to May 25th, 2000 I was an avowed atheist and a hostile one at that. I hated Christians and their bibles. Then I met a creator who knew everything about me. It scared the hell out of me. Learning about God has been a humbling experience. Just when I thought I was getting to know Him well - I found out I was wrong (again). I actually had a disagreement with my wife on the subject of healing last year. She believed God healed people, and I didn't. A few months later God told me he wanted to use me to prove my own ideas wrong.

I'm approaching this subject as a kind of skeptic. Not that I don't believe God will do what He says, I believe He will. He's done it for others in the past, He just hasn't done it with me yet. I'm fairly ignorant in the realm of faith healing (sheesh - I hate that term!) And I know far too much about the limitations of traditional medicine. I know what it can do, and what it can't. Doctors are very modest in what they claim medicine can do. Much of it is aimed at relieving symptoms. Some diseases are curable, many are not. God has already said He can pretty much cure anything. I'm going to try to cooperate with him and report what happens.

In the interest of maintaining credibility for this discussion, I'll attempt to obtain verification of any claims of supernatural healing. I don't want to be a source of urban legends. I despise overly zealous fanaticism. At times I may be an eye-witness to something cool. I'll report it as objectively as I can. Most of the time I spend 20 or 30 minutes with my patients and never see them again. They might get healed days or weeks after I pray for them. I'll ask for letters attesting to any claim of healing I post here. I'll try to obtain the testimony of doctors or medical experts who can provide an objective report in a healing that is truly unbelievable.

Finally, I should mention that due to laws protecting the privacy of medical information, I can’t reveal certain things about the patients I transport, including their names. Generally I will discuss patients anonymously. There are a few patients who have given me permission to discuss their case openly. In those cases I will disclose only that which is relevant to the discussion. I'll also discuss relatives, friends and co-workers and their healing. Privacy laws do not pertain to them. This site is for the purpose of discussing several things:

  1. The revelation of God's will for us in its many forms
  2. The ways in which people are healed including the miraculous
  3. Our response to God's revelation and His healing
